Harness Weekly Update: Exacta boosts from H2W list

The TwinSpires Harness Blog Weekly Update covers our successes and failures from selected features and the H2W (horses-to-watch list). H2W horses through the following Monday appear in the next Update’s results.

Thursday, Aug. 24

Our Mohawk Miles trio posted two show finishes—One Night In Paris ($3.70) and Belvedere Bronx ($5.30). Drinksinthesand (56-1) finished seventh. Two of the three races were won by the public’s second choice and one race by its third choice.

Each of two frosh Pennsylvania Sires Stakes at the Meadows were won by the chalk, defeating our choices—Ginger Tree Belle (24-1), fourth, and Pit Boss Hanover (31-1), fifth.

Saturday, Aug. 26

Here are the results of our contenders from the Woodbine/Mohawk stakes program:

Div. two—Elodie Hanover ($2.10), third. Bryant Bros S (64-1) broke late, finishing seventh.

Div. one—Legendary Hanover ($2.20, $2.10, $2.10) won.
Div. two—Cowboy Cargo (30-1), seventh.
Div. three—Miki Ray (33-1), fourth.

William Wellwood
Mars Hill ($6.30, $4.20) second, completing $16.40 exacta (with favorite winning).

H2W LIST RESULTS

This week, there were 42 active H2W horses (a 7% win hit rate and a 33% across-the-board hit rate).

Exactas listed in H2W results reflect an H2W horse finishing second to a race favorite, or if the first two finishers were on the list, when an asterisk appears for cold exactas. The note “OK” determines prices are correct when a show price exceeds the place price or all three prices are identical.

NEWS & NOTES

Freehold Raceway resumed racing on Aug. 25 with a 12:30 p.m. (ET) post time. The fall meet is full of stakes, including New Jersey Sire Stakes (NJSS) and Standardbred Owners Association (SOANJ) events. Competitive legs of the NJSS for three-year-old trotting fillies, the $50k SBOANJ-sponsored Garden State Trot for three-year-old trotting colts, and Renaissance eliminations and final for two-year-old pacers are also featured.

Harness racing returns to Meadowlands Racetrack on Friday, Sept. 1, but only runs through Saturday, Sept. 9, with a 6:20 p.m. (ET) post time. The brief meet is highlighted by the New Jersey Classic Series.
