Harness Weekly Update: Slam-dunk power plays, big win and place prices
The TwinSpires Harness Blog Weekly Update covers our successes and failures from selected features and the H2W (horses-to-watch list). H2W horses through the following Monday appear in the next Update’s results.
Sunday, May 15
We hit the board on all three PA All-Stars stakes at Pocono. Our winner was Night Hawk ($3.00, $2.20, $2.10) and finishing third were the other two, Layton Hanover ($2.20) and Energetic Hanover ($2.10).
Thursday, May 19
This week’s Mohawk Miles selections included Willtowin Hanover (4-1), finishing sixth to the 7-2 winner, and Tymalpassuby, who scratched.
At Running Aces we aced the winner, Sweet Young Thing ($3.60, $2.60, $2.40).
Friday, May 20
We aimed at a single race at Vernon for our feature and although our contenders became public choices, it produced slam-dunk power plays. With one scratch, Fiona, we were left with our key-win bet, an exacta and a trifecta—and we hit them all cold. Our key win bet Unusual Clarity ($3.40, $2.30, $2.30 OK) won. Our second choice, The Hunt Is On ($3.30, $2.90), was second, and My Standards ($3.90) was third.
The exacta paid 5-2 (an overlay) at $7.10. The trifecta paid $30.00. Doing the math with $20 wagers from straight tickets (no boxing, no reversing) paid $34.00 for the winner, $71.00 for the exacta, and $300.00 for the trifecta.
Saturday, May 21
Favorites took control of our Power Plays at the Meadowlands, winning each leg of the Pick 3. We had the first with Bettors Donttell ($4.60, $2.20, $2.10), with Grand Cayman (31-1) sixth. Our leg 2 single, Weslynn Quest (23-1), finished fourth. In the last leg we were third with Dina Bolt N ($5.00), fourth with Machdavid (3-1), and fifth with Italian Delight N (8-1).
Then, another favorite won the featured Cutler trot and we were sixth with When Dovescry (26-1).
H2W LIST RESULTS
The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Exactas listed include a H2W horse finishing second to a race-favorite or if the first two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses form a cold exotic combo; most base prices are $2). The note “OK” determines that prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a place price or all prices are the same).
Please note that some results reflect horses racing after the blog posts (they appear the following week).

The 2022 C$1 million Pepsi North America Cup for soph pacers is Canada’s biggest harness purse. This year's “Cup” is contested on June 18 at Mohawk. The complexion of this year's event changed when Spring Book favorite Monte Miki retired. Here are our top five choices as of May 23:

Western Fair’s renewal of the C$150k Camluck Classic (CC) is back at the Ontario track after two years. The CC draw takes place Monday, May 23, and includes the identity of the so-called “mystery horse.” The confirmed starters (alphabetically) are: American History, Funatthebeach, Jimmy Freight, Ocean Rock, Poseidon Seelster, Tattoo Artist and This Is The Plan, all veterans of the Borgata Pacing Series.
Jujubee, the top three-year-old colt trotter of 2021, is having his four-year-old debut delayed, but his connections hope the star is ready to race in stakes action by summer. Last season, Jujubee won 14 of 18 races, and earned $948k leading all male trotters. Trained by Greg Wright Jr., Jujubee qualified at Spring Garden Ranch, and won in 1:56.1. He was eligible for the Graduate Series which got underway May 7, as well as the Cutler Memorial at The Meadowlands but was not entered.
