Harrington hosts lucrative Governor's Day card
This Thursday evening will mark the beginning of a very busy weekend for standardbred enthusiasts as Harrington Raceway in Delaware hosts its annual, lucrative Governor's Day card featuring four, $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund finals for three-year-olds of both gaits and genders as well as a solid supporting group of overnight races for older pacers.
In fact, the opening race on the card is the $100,000 DSBF final for three-year-old filly pacers where a trio of talented sophomore ladies will garner much of the support.
Gigi Deo (Ross Wolfenden) drew the rail for prominent national trainer Ron Burke. Gigi Deo sports a 2-2-2 slate and $43,000 bankroll from nine starts this year, but she has been slightly overshadowed by two other fillies in this group. Purrfect Bags (Victor Kirby) has won five of seven starts and earned nearly $96,000, including an 11-1 upset in the $120,000 Lismore final at Yonkers Raceway last month, but she will be forced to overcome post seven. Totally Rusty (Corey Callahan) perhaps has the most ability in the group and owns six wins in eight starts, earnings of $117.000 and a stellar 1:50.3 seasonal mark, but she will start from the dreaded eight hole.
One race later in the $40,000 Governor's Cup for the top Delaware-owned pacers, much of the focus will be on two horses who have been dominant at times in the Open here. Just A Jolt (Kirby) overcame post eight to win last year's Governor's Cup during a season in which he was clearly the dominant pacer in the First State. He owns a modest 5-4-2 slate, $93,000 bankroll and a seasonal mark of 1:49.2 from 17 outings and leaves from post four this evening, but he may not go postward as the favorite despite drawing well inside of his main rival.
Bandolito (Daryl Bier) has won eight of 20 starts and earned just over $100,000 and he also sports an eye-opening seasonal best clocking of 1:48.1 on a five-eighths mile oval and he has captured the Open at Harrington and Rosecroft and been competitive in similar events at tracks in Pennsylvania. But Bandolito will also have to overcome post eight to prevail this year, just as Just A Jolt had done one year earlier in this event. He has the most ability of any pacer in the group, but it remains to be seen how much the eight hole will affect him.

Cuddle Punk (Tim Tetrick) has won three of six starts this year, I Got Spunk (Tyler Raymer) has won three times in 12 outings and Callmemza (Jonathan Roberts) has won three times and been second three times in six starts this year for trainer William "Bib" Roberts of Yankee Co-Ed fame.

Go Byem (Les Givens) has won five of 12 starts and earned over $60,000 and taken a seasonal mark of 1:53 on a one-mile oval and draws the rail. Political Foe (Eddie Dennis) has won three of eight starts and earned nearly $80,000 this year, but draws post six while Egosnattitudes (Roberts) has won three times in seven tries and sports a 1:57.1 mark over this oval.
