Del Mar (Benoit Photo)
Tim has value picks at Saratoga and Del Mar among his offerings today, and tabs a spot play at Gulfstream Park, Monmouth Park, and Woodbine as well.
Gulfstream
Race 2
Trainer Fawkes wins with 14% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days and saddles #5 Little Shamrock (20-1), who was eased after showing some early run in her debut over the track and distance in late-May. Daughter of Uncaptured is a half-sister to a winner and has worked forwardly since her first outing for Fawkes, who wins with 13% of his second time starters. Filly cost $280K as a 2-year-old and can show more here under Jaramillo, who has won with two of his last nine rides for the barn.
Saratoga
Race 5
#8 No Mo’ Spending (9-2) took some betting action but was not a serious threat after a slow start in her debut at Churchill last month. Daughter of Uncle Mo posted a sharp 4-furlong work in :47 here 10 days ago for trainer Wilkes, who wins with 12% of his second time starters. Improvement can be expected with Castellano taking the mount.
Race 8
Sprinters on the main track include #5 Chateau (8-1), who weakened to finish fifth after vying for the early lead at Monmouth three weeks ago in his first start for trainer Atras and first outing since early-March. Atras wins with 29% of his runners second off a layoff and son of Flat Out won his one previous start on this oval. Gelding has a record of 10-3-3-2 at this distance and figures to be the one to catch with Irad Ortiz riding.
Monmouth
Race 1
Mike Stidham wins with 15% of his first-time starters and saddles #7 Takingtimeoff (7-2), a debuting daughter of Curlin who is out of Ballerina (G1) winner Dubai Escapade. Works at Fair Hills include a bullet 4-furlong move in :48 2/5 from the gate a week ago for Stidham, who has won with 19% of his starters this year. Bay can win at first asking under Diaz, who has won with two of his last six rides for Stidham.
Woodbine
Race 2
Plenty of early pace should help chances of #4 Blond Attitude (6-1), who was blocked on the turn in her latest over 7-furlongs here this month in her second start of the year. 6-year-old has a record of 8-2-1-0 on this oval and trainer Buttigieg wins with 18% of his runners third off a layoff. Mare can be along late with Fukumoto in the irons.
Del Mar
Race 5
#9 Bulletproof One (9-2) hit the board twice from three previous starts on grass and comes off a fading unplaced effort after dueling for the early lead on the main track at Santa Anita. Daughter of 23% turf sire Idiot Proof posted a quick 3-furlong move in :34 4/5 on grass five days ago for Peter Miller, who excels with his fillies sprinting on grass. Bay appears fastest and may be tough to catch with Gonzalez in the saddle.
Race 11
Trainer Baffert wins with 26% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days and saddles #3 Dark Prince (15-1), who has not been seen since fading to an unplaced finish at Santa Anita in March, an outing he probably needed since it was the first in nearly 17 months. Gray has been working well since his latest for Baffert, who has won with 30% of his runners since the beginning of this year. Gelding will likely be sent early again with Van Dyke remaining aboard.
