Holland's North America Racing Picks for July 26

July 26th, 2020

Saratoga

Race 6

#5 Taranta (10-1) narrowly missed when closing to finish second at Louisiana Downs last month in her first start for trainer Brian House. Daughter of good European sire Gleneagles finished fifth (not far behind third-placer Magic Attitude, the subsequent Prix Vanteaux [G3] winner) in her final start in France before joining House, who has won with 11% of his runners this year. Filly can be along from off the pace with Cancel in the irons.

Race 10

Maidens on turf include #3 Dreamonmebaby (15-1), who tries grass for the first time and who was claimed by Danny Gargan in his latest at Churchill in early June. Gelding is by excellent young sire Constitution, whose offspring have won 14% of their starts on turf and Gargan wins with a solid 31% first off the claim. Dark bay can be closing under Carmouche, who has won with one of his last nine rides for the barn.

Ellis Park

Race 3

Mike Maker wins with 17% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days and saddles #2 Moravia (9-2), who has not been seen since weakening to finish sixth at Belmont just over 14 months ago. 4-year-old disappointed in her two North American starts, but in her final start in Ireland finished a close second in the Silver Flash (G3) behind Skitter Skatter, who won the Moyglare Stud (G1) two starts later. Bay has been working well for her first start for Maker and will be tough if regaining some of her previous form.

Gulfstream Park

Race 7

Maiden claimers going 6 furlongs include #7 Gino Time (12-1), who debuts for 12% first-out trainer Maria Bowersock. Gelding has a good win-early pedigree being by Big Drama and out of a mare by Werblin and has been working well for Bowersock, who wins 11% overall in maiden claiming events. Dark bay could surprise at first asking with Allen in the saddle.

Race 10

#10 Hera (9-2) narrowly missed when closing to finish second in her latest over 5 furlongs at this level here last month in her first start since September. Daughter of 14% grass sire Kantharos has a record of 12-2-2-0 on turf and trainer David wins with 27% of his runners second time off a layoff. Chestnut has won one of four starts at this distance and can be near the front from the start with Lebron riding.

Woodbine

Race 6

Mark Casse has been winning with 20% of his runners at this meet and saddles #2 Just Playing (12-1), who has not been seen since making mild progress to finish fifth over 6 1/2 furlongs here in September, from which race the winner and runner-up both won next time out. Daughter of Pioneerof the Nile is a half-sister to Rule, who won the Monmouth Cup (G2), and she has been working well for Casse, who wins with 16% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days. Filly has hit the board in one of three starts and can be running late with Wilson aboard.

Lone Star Park

Race 4

#5 Glorious Rose (8-1) made some progress after being bumped at the start when fourth in her debut over 5 1/2 furlongs here last month. Trainer Von Hemel wins with 15% of his second-time starters and daughter of Sky Mesa is a half-sister to three winners. Filly will likely show more here and Quinonez remains aboard.
