Holland's North American Free Picks for Dec. 12

December 12th, 2020

Tim Holland has a couple of stakes picks for Gulfstream Park on Saturday, as well as selections for Fair Grounds and Tampa Bay Downs.

Gulfstream Park

Race 6

Plenty of early speed in the Sugar Swirl (G3) should help the chances of #1 Sound Machine (5-1), who gets blinkers added off a second-place finish over 7 furlongs at Gulfstream West last month. Daughter of Into Mischief has a record of 4-2-2-0 on this oval and posted a sharp 4 furlong work in :46 1/5 six days ago for trainer Joseph, who has won with 22% of his runners this year. Filly should get a good trip from just off the pace with Jose Ortiz riding.

Race 10

Blinkers come off #2 Delaware (5-1), who was rank early before closing to narrowly miss when third in the one-mile Artie Schiller at Aqueduct last month. That was his first start since August. Son of Frankel won the Prix Daphnis (G3) in France before joining trainer Brown, who wins with 35% of his runners with blinkers removed. 4-year-old should find a solid early pace to relax behind with Irad Ortiz in the saddle.

Tampa Bay Downs

Race 4

Trainer Hamm wins with 19% of his runners making their debut in maiden claiming events and saddles #7 Dudes Lawyer (8-1), a debuting daughter of 12% first-out sire First Dude and a half-sister to two winners. Filly has been working forwardly and Hamm has won with 16% of his starters since the beginning of this year. Chestnut may win at first asking with Garcia aboard.

Fair Grounds

Race 9

#8 Win Ya Win (12-1) was last seen posting a close second after being involved from the start at this distance at Delaware in September. Gelding won his previous start on this oval and trainer Camejo wins with 24% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days. Son of Star Guitar has won from just off the pace in the past and can be in good position throughout with Santana in the irons.

Race 13

Maidens going 6 furlongs include #7 Get the Net (10-1), who debuts for a 25% first-out trainer, Sam David. Son of 11% first-out sire Astrology is a half-brother to two winners and has worked well for David, who wins with 26% of his runners overall in maiden special weight events. Gelding is likely ready for a good first outing with Pedroza riding.
