Tim Holland brings his expert analysis to the North American scene with his free daily picks at Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, and Fair Grounds.
Gulfstream Park
Race 5
Trainer Baxter wins with 25% of her first-time starters and saddles #3 R Adios Jersey (7-2), a debuting daughter of 13% first-out sire Adios Charlie who is a half-sister to four winners. Filly has been working well and Baxter wins with 32% of her runners overall in maiden claiming events. Bay is likely ready to win at first asking under Lopez, who has won with two of his last five rides for the barn.
Laurel Park
Race 5
Maidens going 6 furlongs include #8 See That Girl (8-1), who debuts for trainer Capuano, who wins with 14% of his first-time starters. Dark bay has a good win-early pedigree being by Daredevil and out of a mare by Storm Cat, and Capuano has won with 23% of his runners at this meet. Filly appears ready with apprentice Corujo riding.
Fair Grounds
Race 8
#7 Specially (9-2) tries grass for the first time but has not been seen since fading to finish unplaced over 6 furlongs on the main track at Churchill in May. Filly should take to the surface being by Tapiture and out of a mare by War Front, and trainer Casse wins with 17% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days and with 14% first time on turf. Bay can be in good position throughout with Geroux taking the mount.
Race 9
Trainer Pish wins with 17% of his second-time starters and sends out #5 Halfglamorous (7-2), who was involved throughout when a close second in her debut over 5 1/2 furlongs here last month. Pish wins with 19% of his runners in maiden special weight events and daughter of speedy sire Half Ours is out of a stakes-placed mare. Gray figures to be tough to catch with Mena in the saddle.
