Tim Holland offers his daily North American racing picks for Gulfstream Park, Fair Grounds, and Turfway Park.

Gulfstream Park

Race 1

#9 Sum Nation (5-2) was claimed by Saffie Joseph when making belated progress to finish fourth in her debut facing better at this distance at Gulfstream West in mid-October. Joseph wins with 34% of his runners second time off the claim and daughter of In Summation is a half-sister to two winners on grass. Filly can be along late under Zayas, who has won with 27% of his rides for the barn in the past two months.

Fair Grounds

Race 7

Maidens going 6 furlongs include #5 Customadeforasaint (6-1), who weakened late when second after leading from the start in his debut over 5 furlongs at Louisiana Downs in mid-August, from which race the winner returned to win again in his next outing. Trainer Schmidt wins with 11% of her runners that have not raced for 90+ days. Gelding figures to be the one to catch again with Murray riding.

Race 8

Mike Stidham wins with 16% of his first-time starters and saddles #8 Doc Girl (9-2), a debuting daughter of good first-out sire Elusive Quality. $320K yearling purchase is a half-sister to two winners and works include a sharp 4-furlong move in :48 a week ago for Stidham, who wins with 19% of his runners on grass. Bay appears ready to win at first asking with Geroux taking the mount.

Turfway Park

Race 4

#7 Allgrit (12-1) tries an all-weather surface for the first time off a second-place finish at Indiana Grand over 6 furlongs last month. Son of Macho Uno has won two of his 10 career outings and makes his second start for trainer Adams, who won with two of her last 18 making this surface change. Gelding can be running late with Achard in the irons.
