Holland’s North American free racing picks for Aug. 3

A new week and handicapper Tim Holland presents picks from Indiana Grand, Parx Racing, Fort Erie and Lone Star Park. Last week, Tim picked a nice price at Indiana Grand in Tap N Twine on July 28 for at $42.80 payout. This moved his stats to winning at 19% from 909 races and a very slight loss of -.08. Selections of 5-1 odds or more are showing a healthy profit of 27%.

Indiana Grand

Race 6

#8 Scoring (4-1) was claimed by Tom Amoss when second after being involved from the start at Churchill in his last in late April. Son of Justin Phillip has won two of eight career starts and Amoss wins with 24% first off the claim and with 18% that have not raced for 90+ days. Gelding has tactical speed and can be in good position from the start under Bridgmohan, who has won with one of his last two rides for the barn.

Parx

Race 2

Maiden claimers going 6 furlongs include #7 Missing Hoover (9-2), who debuts for trainer Blane Servis. Filly has a useful win-early pedigree being by Jump Start and out of a mare by City Zip, and works include a decent 3-furlong move from the gate in :36 4/5 five days ago. Dark bay can win at first asking with Rosado in the saddle.

Race 8

Trainer Linder has won with 16% of his runners at this meet and saddles #3 Jamie’s Wanderlust (9-2) for her debut. Linder wins with just 5% of his first-time starters but filly is by Munnings, whose offspring win 15% of their first outings. Bay is a half-sister to one winner and posted a solid 4-furlong work in :47 4/5 six days ago. $70K 2-year-old purchase appears ready for a good first outing with Sanchez taking the mount.

Fort Erie

Race 6

Blinkers are added to #5 Spinning Piper (10-1) who showed little after a slow start when unplaced in his debut on turf at Woodbine from which race the first two finishers both won their next outings. Son of Hard Spun is out of a stakes-placed mare, and trainer Giliforte won with one of his last two second-time starters. Improvement can be expected under Chris Husbands, who has won with one of his last two rides for this stable.

Lone Star

#8 Bling’s Bellwether (8-1) debuts for trainer Caldwell, who wins with 11% of his first-time starters. Son of 15% first-out sire Too Much Bling is out of a mare by Indian Charlie, whose offspring win 16% of their first outings. Gelding is a half-brother to four winners and has been working well for Caldwell, who has won with 21% of his runners at this meet. Dark bay is likely ready for a good first outing under Arellano, who has won with 20% of his rides for the barn in the last 60 days.
