Holland's North American free racing picks for Aug. 30

Tim Holland rounds out this week in racing with his free expert picks at Saratoga, Monmouth, Woodbine, and Del Mar.

Saratoga

Race 8

#4 Gandy Dancing (2-1) was a touch rank early when chasing the early pace before being angled wide to finish second in his latest over the track and distance four weeks ago. Trainer Brown has won with 21% of his runners at this meet, and son of Flatter impressed when winning his debut at this trip and is a half-brother to two other winners. $210K yearling purchase figures to find a decent pace to track and Castellano remains aboard.

Monmouth

Race 7

Sprinters going 6 furlongs include #7 Prancing Warrior (9-2) who led from the start to win in an upset in her latest over the track and distance last month. Daughter of Bold Warrior now has a record of 9-3-0-1 on this oval, and trainer Spina wins with 12% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days. Dark bay appears fastest early again here and can be the one to catch with Ferrer retaining the mount

 Woodbine

Race 2

Trainer Day Phillips wins with 14% of her runners off a layoff and saddles #7 Barilko (6-1) who comes off a one-paced, last-of-six finish on grass over 6 furlongs here last month in his third start of the year. Son of Elusive Quality posted a sharp 3-furlong work in :34 1/5 four days ago for Day, who wins with 22% of her runners making this surface change. Bay can be in good position from the start with Wilson again in the saddle.

Del Mar

Race 5

#4 Tengas Masterpiece (20-1) was not a factor when unplaced in his debut at Los Alamitos in his debut in September but posted a sharp 5-furlong work nine days ago for trainer Freeman, who wins with 17% of his second-time starters. Freeman wins with 21% of his runners overall in maiden claiming events, and son of Tenga Cat is a half-brother to two winners. Colt can show more here under Gutierrez, who has won with two of his last 10 rides for the barn.

Race 11

#6 Acoustic Shadow (12-1) makes her first start for trainer Powell and has not been seen since finishing sixth as the favorite in her debut at Gulfstream at this distance in January. Daughter of More Than Ready is out of a mare by Tiznow and has been working well for Powell, who wins with 14% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days. Dark bay can be running from off the pace with Hernandez riding.
