Holland's North American Racing Picks for July 27

July 27th, 2020

A new week starts in the racing world with free picks from handicapper Tim Holland. Today, Tim looks at Delaware Park, Lone Star Park and Del Mar. Note that Colonial Down has canceled for the day.

Delaware Park

Race 6

Blinkers are added to #3 Lexatoga (8-1), who closed to narrowly miss when third at Parx at this level earlier this month in his first start for trainer Hendriks and first outing since his debut in April. Hendriks wins with 23% of his runners second off a layoff, and son of good young sire Honor Code is a half-brother to seven winners. Dark bay can be along in time with Suarez aboard.

Lone Star

Race 1

Trainer Diodoro wins with 20% of his second-time starters and saddles #8 Fancy All the Time (20-1), who made some belated progress while a distant fourth in her debut over 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track here last month. Daughter of 12% grass sire Temple City is a half-sister to five winners and Diodoro has won with 30% of his runners at this meet. Gray can show more here under Vasquez, who has won with 40% of his rides for the barn in the past two months.

Colonial Downs

Race 7

Maidens going one mile on turf include #8 Princess Grace (5-1), who debuts for 15% first-out trainer Stidham. Daughter of good young turf sire Karakontie is out of a stakes-placed mare and has been working well for Stidham, who wins with 19% of his runners on grass. Dark bay is likely ready for a good first outing with Boyce riding.

Update: Colonial canceled Monday due to extreme heat

Del Mar

Race 2

#7 Zest (10-1) was prominent from the start when breaking her maiden at this distance at Santa Anita in May in her first start since last June and second outing for trainer Shirreffs. Daughter of Tapit is out of Life Is Sweet, who won the Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (G1), and she has worked well since her latest for Shirreffs, who wins with 27% of his runners that broke their maiden last time out. Chestnut can be forwardly placed early with Cedillo remaining aboard.
