Holland's North American Racing Plays for Dec. 16

December 16th, 2020

Tim Holland has a couple of value plays for Gulfstream Park, as well as picks for Mahoning Valley and Parx on Wednesday.

Gulfstream Park

Race 3

#6 Colliery (12-1) makes his first start for trainer Sweezey with blinkers added. 4-year-old has not been seen since fading to finish unplaced after chasing the early leaders in his debut over the course and distance in March, and son of Mineshaft is out of a mare by excellent turf sire War Front. He's been working forwardly for Sweezey, who wins with 11% of his runners that have not raced for 90+ days. Dark bay can be in good position from the start under Bravo, who has won with two of his last three rides for the barn.

Race 10

Trainer Danner wins with 26% of her runners first time on turf and saddles #9 Speightster’s Gold (20-1), who passed a couple of rivals when fifth on the main track at Gulfstream West over 7 furlongs in her debut last month. Filly should take to grass being by Speightster and out of a mare by Medaglia d’Oro, and Danner has won with two of her first six starters at this meet. Bay can show more here with Zayas retaining the mount.

Parx Racing

Race 8

#3 Shooger Ray Too (6-1) made progress while wide when second over the track and distance at this level last time in mid-October. Trainer Servis wins with 19% of his runners that have not raced for 46-90 days and has won with 21% of his starters at this meet. Son of Wicked Strong has won one of his two starts on dirt and can be in good position throughout with Salgado in the saddle.

Mahoning Valley

Race 8

Maidens going 5 1/2 furlongs include a debutant, #5 Private Dancer (20-1), who has a good win-early pedigree being by New Year’s Day and out of a mare by Vindication. Trainer Sweeting failed to win with his last seven first-time starters, but has won with two of his five runners at this meet. And the gelding’s works include a bullet 3-furlong move in :36 2/5 from the gate early this month. Dark bay is worth a look at likely good odds with Berrios in the irons.
