Hong Kong: Selections for Sha Tin July 14
Racing at Sha Tin begins at 4 a.m. (ET). Selections and analysis by Declan Schuster of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Race 1: Mr Award Handicap
#14 Circuit Splendor slots in light and knows how to win off this mark. He's racing well and gets his chance here, especially after racing with plenty of merit all season. #2 Joyful Life will appreciate the step down to Class 5. His form in the grade above was solid and he will be able to make his presence felt here, although the wide draw is a slight hindrance. #5 Good View Glory is seeking back-to-back wins. He has a suitable gate and is in with another shot. #6 Alloy King is next in line. He does need to bounce back though.
Race 2: Joy And Fun Handicap
#2 Duke Wai narrowly missed last start. He has a hefty impost to lug here, although his most recent effort was outstanding. He has the class and is capable of pinching a late season race like this one. #5 Call Me Glorious is the likely favorite. He was super dominant last start, however, the win may have been flattered by the adverse conditions. He'll be right there again. #6 James Tak continues to progress. He deserves his chance in this grade. #3 Superb Capitalist has the speed to roll forward. He'll make his own luck.
Race 3: Miraculous Handicap
#7 Perfect Peach is closing in on another win. He has the draw to overcome, although Zac Purton's booking is a plus as he aims to return an overdue second success. #10 Speedstar is racing well and will benefit from gate one. Karis Teetan hops up and he gets an opportunity here. #3 Aromatica has placed in both of his last two starts. He has a good gate and can easily use this to his advantage on the weekend. #2 The Concentration is expected to roll forward and set the pace. He can bounce back, especially from barrier three.
Race 4: Solar Hei Hei Handicap
#9 Good Good can press forward and lead. Zac Purton takes the ride and he could prove difficult to run down. He comes from the right stable and is racing over suitable distances now. #7 Reach Goal can bounce back to form. He's suited over this track and trip. #4 Volcanic Spark is racing well and another win is very, very close. Karis Teetan hops up and his latest efforts have been sound. #10 Storm Winner is lightly raced and open to further improvement. He gets an opportunity here.
Race 5: Victory Marvel Handicap
#7 View of the World caught the eye first-up. He can improve following that effort and is worth taking a chance on here. He should be a decent price and dry ground could easily see him improve. #4 First Love did well to grab fifth on debut. Zac Purton hops up and the inside gate is an advantage. Gate two can afford him the right run. #11 Fun N Glory goes about his racing well and he's been consistent of late. He makes his third start for the new stable this weekend. #6 Packing Angel debuts after trialing well. He gets a chance.
Race 6: Medic Kingdom Handicap (2nd Section)
#13 Affirm can press forward and find the front. He deserves a win following recent efforts and the inside gate is an advantage for his go-forward tactics. One to reel in, especially with superb front-running rider Luke Ferraris up. #7 Brilliant Express is lightly raced and continues to lift his game. He has gate one and Hugh Bowman retains the ride once again, which is a plus. #11 The Azure is another who is improving. He can make his presence felt. #12 Happy Daily is dangerous off this rating. He'll be right there in the finish.
Race 7: Big Profit Handicap (1st Section)
#5 Foolish Heart has been competitive in the grade above previously and his most recent starts were cruelled by poor draws. He can return to form from the positive gate this week. One they all must beat. #4 Family Jewel crossed the line fourth on debut, closing hard. There's plenty of improvement to come from him. He's suited over further. #2 Steps Ahead is lightly raced and has placed in all three of his starts so far. He's a big chance to give Francis Lui a crucial win. #12 Winning Turn can improve and deserves some respect.
Race 8: The Hong Kong Racehorse Owners Association Trophy Handicap
#4 Chancheng Glory loves the course and distance. He narrowly missed in a decent Group 3 race two runs back, putting in a performance that bodes very well here. One to beat. #1 Moments In Time has the class-edge. He's done well at Group 1 level previously and has proven himself over this type of distance. #7 Atullibigeal has consistency on his side and pairs favorably with Karis Teetan this weekend. #9 C P Brave has improved this term with a trio of quality wins. He can step up again and will need to do exactly that

Race 9: Pingwu Spark Handicap
#2 Reward Smile gets back into a suitable grade. He's a two-time course and distance winner in Class 3. Hugh Bowman hops up here and the inside draw should see him take beating. #12 Packing Hermod was super impressive last start with a smashing victory on debut. He rises in grade, which is a concern, although his first-up effort suggests he is capable of handling the jump up. #7 Super Joy N Fun is a serious horse, although the wide draw isn't a help. He'll be thereabouts. #3 Sovereign Fund was sound on debut and he can improve over further.
Race 10: Sight Winner Handicap
Chances are #14 I Can will press forward and try to lead this group. He has the wide draw, although a set of go-forward tactics could easily see him overcome this hindrance. He slots in light and has won from a forward position previously. #6 Bright Inheritance has some ability and he was a surprise winner three runs back. His latest effort was sound and he looks set to string two good performances together. #1 Holy Lake is a five-time winner this season. He has a high rating now, although he is pretty honest. #3 Young Achiever is next best.
Race 11: All You Wish Handicap
#8 Giddy Up caught the eye last start, where he was blocked for a run at a crucial stage. He made up ground that day and further improvement could see him take a bit of beating. #1 Patch of Theta has a few rating points still in hand. He's a three-time winner, who can easily add another triumph to his record soon. #3 Beauty Fit returns on the quick back-up. He was a strong winner last start and he should still be in similar form. #13 Setanta is another after consecutive wins. The low impost brings him into contention.
