#2 FEROCIOUSThis top horse flaunted considerable ability as a juvenile and gets blinkers for his three-year-old bow. The $1.3 million juvenile purchase was a troubled fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) in his 2024 finale and has trained forwardly in the interim. The Gustavo Delgado pupil will have Javier Castellano in the silks.

#4 GUNS LOADED: Jose D’Angelo trainee led throughout in his last pair of encounters which includes a score in the Mucho Macho Man S. on the strip in his most recent performance. The $800,000 son of Gun Runner fits really well in the cast and will be sent from the opening bell with Irad inheriting the ride.

#7 BURNHAM SQUAREDangerous Ian Wilkes pupil was a daylight winner on the course with the addition of blinkers last time and seems ready to run with this kind from the outside draw. The Liam’s Map sophomore has flashed talent in each of his trio of career runs leading up to this point, and I expect him to be in the mix turning for home on Saturday with Edgard Zayas staying in the irons.

#3 TAPPAN STREETSecond timer from the Brad Cox barn ran down a clear one while well backed in his debut on the oval and could be almost any kind going forward. The $1 million son of Into Mischief is cut out to be a nice one, and the colt is training in swift fashion in advance of his black-type bow, too. Luis Saez decides to stick with this Kentucky-bred.

#2 CITIZEN BULLA top horse choice and champion son of Into Mischief capped last season with a pair of superb route races and kicks off his three-year-old season in a logical spot. The Baffert pupil has fired a pair of bullet morning drills leading up to this contest and will be especially tough to upend with anything resembling his top effort. Regular pilot Martin Garcia will pilot the imposing sophomore.

#3 RODRIGUEZAuthentic colt graduated in nice fashion at the trip and on the course most recently in his second career appearance for Baffert. The $485,000 yearling buy has good early speed and came home well in his route debut last out, and he also gives the impression of a nice prospect going forward. Kentucky-bred will have the barn’s go-to pilot Juan Hernandez in the irons.

#1 MADAKET ROADGray son of Quality Road finished second in the Bob Hope S. (G3) at first asking prior to graduating on the oval in his second lifetime appearance. One of three in the field for Baffert, the $650,000 yearling purchase has trained well this

Best Bets for the Withers (G3)

Read the full analysis here: Tipsheet: 2025 Withers Stakes

A cast of seven sophomores compete for your best bets as they travel 1 1/8 miles on the Aqueduct dirt on Saturday in the $250,000 Withers S. (G3) during the horse races this week.

#6 CAPTAIN COOKThis top horse brought $410,000 in the fall following a troubled debut, and the bay son of Practical Joke showed why with a powerful, 9 1/4-length romp on the course in graduating in his second run. The Richard Dutrow trainee was professional in his maiden victory, and he looks like the one to beat with something resembling his tour-de-force last time out. Manny Franco retains the mount.

#5 MO QUALITY: Talented one comes off a solid second in the Smarty Jones S. behind a sharp winner and lands in a very realistic spot on this occasion. This Christopher Davis pupil has flashed good ability in each of his trio of outings to date, and his pedigree suggests that nine panels could be within his scope, as well. Kendrick Carmouche will guide the win contender and have him close throughout.

#4 UNCLE JIMWin threat was a fine first-out winner at Keeneland on debut which preceded a third-place allowance result on this surface most recently. The $240,000 son of City of Light is bred to run long and can surely improve while running two turns for the initial time on Saturday. The Kentucky-bred colt will have Jose Lezcano in the irons.

The Jury with your best bets and fades

Ashley Anderson, James Scully, and Darin Zoccali discuss their best bets and fades for a huge weekend of Kentucky Derby (G1) and Oaks (G1) prep races at Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park, and more.

Road to the Kentucky Oaks points race

While there are three Derby prep races this Saturday, we shouldn't forget about the Road to the Kentucky Oaks series as part of our key races.

During this weekend's horse races, a diverse field of 11 sophomore fillies will go seven-eighths on the Gulfstream Park main oval in Saturday’s $165,000 Forward Gal S. (G3). The finale on a big day of racing appears to have some top horses on paper with multiple prospects worthy of recognition in the affair.

Forward Gal Exotics

  • $10 exacta 7 with 1,3 ($20)
  • $1 trifecta key 7 with 1,2,3,9,11 ($20)
  • 50-cent trifecta 1,2,3,9,11 with 7 with 1,2,3,9,11 ($10)
