A challenging set of results to conclude the action at Santa Anita Park on Sunday led to a Pick 6 carryover of $63,301 heading into Thursday afternoon.

The eight-race card features four maiden events, including a pair of $40,000 maiden claimers down the hill. The six-race sequence begins in Race 3 at approximately 1:30 PM local time.  Despite a number of small fields there should be at least a couple of opportunities to differentiate from the public.

Most likely winner in sequence:

Race 8

#7 Camps Bay lacks early speed, but has run well in both of his starts down the hill for trainer John Sadler. The son of Lookin At Lucky draws favorably to the outside and should get enough pace to run into to get the best of this modest bunch of maiden claimers in the final furlong.

Best price horse to include on ticket:

Race 4

#1 Morgan S. and #2 Smiling Angelo appear the likeliest winners on paper in this state-bred optional claimer over the main track, but if they go at it early it could set things up for #6 Shades of Victory.

Trainer Reed Saldana has done an excellent job with the claiming game of late and he brings Shades of Victory back for his first start since being claimed for $12,500 at Golden Gate in early April. Saldana takes the blinkers off, so look for Tyler Baze to take this colt to the back early and come with a big run late. Hopefully he gets the right setup on Thursday afternoon.

Race 5

#8 Harliss makes his third straight start down the hill after a pair of stalk and fade efforts dating back to early April for trainer Val Brinkerhoff. The son of Midshipman may have the speed to clear from his advantageous outside draw. If he is able to do so or if jockey Alonso Quinonez is able to relax him just off the early pace he has a big shot to spring the upset.

Race 7

#5 Sorry Erik makes the second start of his four-year-old campaign after a solid third place effort at this level on April 22^nd. The son of Wilburn raced against graded stakes company as a three-year-old for trainer Keith Desormeaux, so he has faced solid competition over his 14-race career.

Sorry Erik has 2 wins in 4 starts over the Santa Anita main track and should be set for a career best effort after shaking off the rust last time out. The colt should get an honest pace in front of him. With a clean voyage, Keith’s brother should have a ton of horse when they turn for home. 6-1 is probably too much to ask, but singling him in the Pick 6 could lead to a big payday.
