Horses to bet in Arlington Park's four Saturday carryovers

One… two… three… four. Yes, you counted correctly—there are actually four carryovers up for grabs on Saturday at Arlington Park, including three of the non-jackpot variety.

The carryovers span the entire eight-race card as follows:

• A $5,142 carryover in the 20-cent Pick 8 (Races 1-8, first post time 3:25 p.m. ET)
• A $2,254 carryover in the 20-cent Pick 7 (Races 2-8, first post time 3:54 p.m. ET)
• An $8,131 carryover in the 20-cent Pick 6 (Races 3-8, first post time 4:28 p.m. ET)
• A $227,309 jackpot carryover in the 20-cent Super High 5 (Race 8, post time 7:16 p.m. ET)

Best single: #6 Three Amigos (8-5)

Three Amigos looms as a standout among the experienced runners in this $20,000 maiden claiming sprint. Conditioned by Brendan Walsh, Three Amigos has cracked the trifecta in his first two starts against considerably tougher competition. After finishing second in a $50,000 maiden claiming race at Gulfstream (splitting the next-out winners Blue Lou Boyle and Lumberjack), Three Amigos stepped up to finish third against maiden special weight company at Keeneland. If he handles switching from turf to Polytrack, Three Amigos will be tough to beat in his Arlington debut.

Some folks might feel inclined to use the first-time starter #4 Baseball Politics (3-1) as backup, considering trainer Larry Rivelli has won at a 43% rate this meet. But Rivelli’s 24% strike rate with runners debuting in maiden claiming races falls well below his overall 34% win rate, suggesting this strategy is a somewhat less effective one for Rivelli.

Live longshot: Race 8, #4 Cat Attack (10-1)

Although Cat Attack has never faced winners, the daughter of Get Stormy has upside in this 1 1/16-mile turf allowance race for Illinois-bred fillies and mares.

After all, Cat Attack was tons the best in a one-mile maiden special weight over the Hawthorne turf course last fall, her first start in a grass route. After vying for the lead over a yielding course, Cat Attack drew clear down the lane to obliterate her rivals by 10 1/4 lengths.

Cat Attack has been training up a storm in preparation for her 2021 debut, breezing a bullet half mile in :46 4/5 on May 20 and a bullet five furlongs in :58 2/5 on June 2. If she improves in her first start as a sophomore, she can give logical favorite #6 Summer Day (5-2) a fight to the finish line.
