Horses to play in carryovers at Mahoning, Aqueduct, Golden Gate, and Turfway
Fans of non-jackpot carryovers are in for a treat this Saturday. A bevy of suitable prize pools are up for grabs across the country, including a couple in the five-figure range.
Let’s highlight horses to build tickets around in a quartet of carryovers:
Mahoning Valley, Race 1: $3,576 Pick 5 carryover (12:15 p.m. ET)
Mahoning kicks off the carryover action with a $3,576 prize pool in the 50-cent Pick 5. In the event no one assembles a winning ticket, 50% of the daily pool will be dispersed as consolation among bettors who select the highest number of winners.
What is a single, and why are they valuable?

That's a great question!
Let's ask @J_Keelerman ⬇️ https://t.co/WTuXqaYlAW
Looking for a horse to single? Try #6 Mobil Chic (8-5) in Race 1, a one-mile maiden special weight for Ohio-bred fillies and mares. Mobil Chic recently returned from a long layoff to finish second sprinting six furlongs over this track and class level, earning a sharp 72 Brisnet Speed rating. None of her rivals have run as fast, so if Mobil Chic handles stretching out in distance, she can win for fun at a short price.
Aqueduct, Race 4: $28,207 Pick 6 carryover (1:43 p.m. ET)
The latest carryover in Aqueduct’s challenging $1 Pick 6 is a $28,207 pot up for grabs on Saturday. With 68 horses in the entries before scratches, it’s safe to say the sequence looks challenging.
If you want to keep costs down, you might consider singling #7 Kant Hurry Love (3-1) in Race 5, a maiden special weight for New York-bred juvenile fillies. The daughter of Kantharos hasn’t missed the trifecta in five starts over this class level, most recently finishing second by a nose on Nov. 21 at Aqueduct.
Kant Hurry Love brings tactical speed and strong Brisnet Speed ratings to the table, so she’s certainly a logical contender on paper. Throw in the fact trainer Christophe Clement has gone 9-for-27 (33%) saddling juvenile sprinters over the Aqueduct dirt since 2016, and Kant Hurry Love looks tough to beat.
Golden Gate Fields, Race 1: $44,024 Pick 5 carryover (2:45 p.m. ET)
Easily the largest non-jackpot carryover on the table for Saturday is the $44,024 prize pool in the 50-cent Early Pick 5 at Golden Gate Fields. And with only 40 horses in the entries, constructing a winning ticket on a modest budget is within the realm of possibility.
A logical place to start is singling #7 Mr Botanicals (1-1) in Race 1, an $8,000 maiden claimer set to be contested over 5 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta. Mr Botanicals has finished second in his last two starts over this track and class level, earning sharp Brisnet Speed ratings of 77 and 78. None of his rivals have run as fast, so Mr Botanicals should be tough to deny for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Armando Ayuso and Tim McCanna.
While horses are the most important factor in handicapping any race, many bettors look toward jockey statistics to strengthen their opinions and separate top contenders.@J_Keelerman helps you understand rider stats 👇 https://t.co/asGyQ1e0YO

Turfway Park, Race 8: $1,518 Super High 5 carryover (9:46 p.m. ET)
Looking for a horse to key on top in Turfway Park’s $1 Super High 5, which features a $1,518 carryover up for grabs in Race 8? Your best bet might be #8 Kate’s Golden Dude (3-1), who boasts a solid 10-2-1-3 record at Turfway.
Kate’s Golden Dude has been in hot form in recent months, winning three of his last five starts on the Ohio circuit. He’s led all the way in his last two runs, most recently crushing a $15,000 claimer at Mahoning Valley with a 100 Brisnet Speed rating. Transitioning back to Tapeta shouldn’t be an issue, and if Kate’s Golden Dude produces his A-game, he’ll be tough to catch.
Good luck!
