Horses to single in Arlington Park's three carryovers
Saturday was a day for upsets at Arlington Park. Seven of the eight races were won in upset fashion, with a trio of odds-on favorites falling to defeat.
As a result, three non-jackpot carryovers are up for grabs during Sunday’s eight-race card:
- Race 1, $2,546 Pick 8 carryover (3:29 p.m. ET)
- Race 2, $5,023 Pick 7 carryover (4:02 p.m. ET)
- Race 3, $2,866 Pick 6 carryover (4:36 p.m. ET)
Planning to play along? We’ve gone through the card and identified a pair of possible singles to get you started.
Race 1: $14,000 Starter Optional Claiming: Jets a Ginnin (7-5)
Jets a Ginnin has been something of a winning machine with 13 victories from 22 starts. The six-year-old mare romped by 3 1/4 lengths over this track and class level on July 4, and she was even sharper in a $10,000 starter allowance at Ellis Park two weeks later, scoring by four lengths.
Jets a Ginnin has lots of tactical speed, an advantage since 43% of 6 1/2-furlong Polytrack sprints at Arlington are won in gate-to-wire fashion. For good measure, Jets a Ginnin has drawn the rail, which produces 21% winners over this track and distance. If Jets a Ginnin breaks alertly, she may prove impossible to catch for the ultra-hot jockey/trainer duo of Victor Santiago and Scott Becker, with 43% winners together over the last two months.
Race 3: $5,000 Starter Allowance: #3 Juju’s Specialgirl (6-5)
Juju’s Specialgirl hasn’t missed the trifecta in her last nine starts under the care of Arlington’s leading trainer, Larry Rivelli. This includes a runner-up effort in a 5 1/2-furlong, $20,000 claimer over the Arlington grass course last month, where she rallied gamely to finish just 1 1/4 lengths away from victory while earning an 82 Brisnet Speed rating.
A repeat of this effort should be sufficient to land Juju’s Specialgirl in the winner’s circle while dropping down into a $5,000 starter allowance. Sprinting five furlongs on turf should be right up her alley, since her 14-2-4-2 lifetime grass record is solid. Throw in the presence of Rivelli’s go-to jockey Jareth Loveberry (a 30% winner this meet), and Juju’s Specialgirl looks like a logical single.
Good luck!
