Horses to single in Lone Star's $7,775 Pick 6 carryover

There are many carryovers available to chase on Sunday. Many are of the jackpot variety, but Lone Star Park offers an exception with a $7,775 prize pool in the non-jackpot “6 Shooter” Pick 6.

The 50-cent wager carries a low 12% takeout rate and awards consolation payoffs to bettors who select five out of six winners (or the most winners on days when no one hits the Pick 6).

Race 7: $15,000 Maiden Claiming (7 1/2 furlongs on turf): #6 Angie At Theoffice (5-1)

Angie At Theoffice ran strongly in her first start for trainer Jayde Gelner. Facing eight rivals in a $12,500 maiden claimer sprinting six furlongs at Fair Grounds, Angie At Theoffice tracked the early pace, rallied to lead in midstretch, and ultimately settled for second place by less than one length.

This effort produced a strong 67 Brisnet Speed rating, one of the highest figures in Sunday’s field. This race contains very little pace on paper, so Angie At Theoffice figures to work out a favorable trip setting or stalking a slow tempo. Even while stepping up the class ladder, Angie At Theoffice looms as a formidable win threat at an excellent price. If you’re hesitant to support the class-dropping, surface-switching favorite Wyome (who hasn’t hit the board in six starts), then Angie At Theoffice looms as a viable single.

Race 10: Maiden Special Weight (7 1/2 furlongs on turf): #5 Causeway Storm (9-5)

Causeway Storm misfired over this class level when last seen on March 24, finishing eighth at Sam Houston. But that race took place on dirt, and it seems evident Causeway Storm does his best work on turf., the surface over which he's bred to shine.

Indeed, Causeway Storm hasn’t missed the trifecta in three starts on grass, including two efforts against maiden special weight company at Sam Houston. The five-year-old gelding has tactical speed and brings competitive Brisnet Speed ratings to the fold, setting the stage for a winning effort. Keep in mind, trainer Kevin Scholl strikes at a 29% rate with horses transitioning from dirt to turf.
