New York-breds will be the primary focus on Thursday's card at Saratoga with half of the 10 races restricted to state-breds. That includes the featured $75,000 John Morrissey H. for older sprinters on the main track as well as a pair of allowances on the turf.
We'll take a look at the middle of the program for a couple cashing opportunities. First post is 1:10 p.m. ET and you can watch and wager at TwinSpires.com.
Race 5 -- 3:28 p.m. ET
Campaigned as a sprinter for much of his career, #10 GHOST GIANT (8-1) took well to the step up in trip last fall after moving to the Engelhart barn. A tough-trip second at this level behind a rival who in his younger days was a Grade 2-winning juvenile, he rebounded a month later at Aqueduct beating similar foes at this distance. Has less than two lengths to find on #2 Opt and #5 Rinaldi following a comeback fifth at Belmont on June 26, but improved greatly second off the bench last summer and will be a bigger price than both in this rematch.
Race 6 -- 4:04 p.m. ET
Maker barn off to a strong start this meet and #5 MORE MANGO (4-1) fits the bill as another potential winner first off the claim. Showed improvement last out when dropped to the selling ranks by previous connections, but simply couldn't catch up with a loose-on-the-lead winner that was able to get away with some slower internal splits. Could see some more early foot from her today adding blinkers and picking up Jose Ortiz.
