With divisions at Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park, Danny Gargan has won 13-of-25 starts (52% win) since Jan. 5. He went a sizzling 8-for-12 over the six-day period from Jan. 20-25, and captured 2-of-4 starts last week.
Gargan is a rising star in the training ranks.
Trainer Stats over the last 60 days from Brisnet
A son of late jockey Danny Gargan, the younger Gargan worked as an assistant for Nick Zito and as a jockey agent before opening a public stable in 2013. His operation began to take off in 2018, winning 56-of-234 starts (24%), and Gargan ranked 53rd overall among North American trainers with earnings of $3,186,679 after posting a 59-for-262 record (23%) in 2019.
Last year, Gargan saddled his first Kentucky Derby starter, Tax, who he claimed for $50,000 from a maiden tally in the second start. The gelding won the Withers (G3) and finished second in the Wood Memorial (G2) before an unplaced effort at Churchill Downs, and Tax came back to win the Jim Dandy (G2) at Saratoga two starts later.
Gargan is off to a fast start in 2020, with an overall 46% strike rate (13-for-28), and he has sent out a couple of longshot winners at Gulfstream over the last two weeks, with Dr. Shane scoring at 12.90-1 and Silver Kitten at 11-1.
He doesn’t have any horses entered through Friday at Aqueduct and Gulfstream, so we will have to wait until probably the weekend for Gargan’s next runner.
