How to bet Aqueduct's $42,913 Pick 6 carryover

January 16th, 2022

Any day when Aqueduct has a Pick 6 carryover up for grabs is a good day. Such will be the case on Sunday, when Aqueduct offers a $42,913 non-jackpot prize pool for their $1 Pick 6.

A seemingly straightforward sequence (first post time 1:48 p.m. ET) is on the agenda, so let’s examine the races and assemble a ~$50 play:

Race 4: Maiden Special Weight (seven furlongs)

#2 Laochi (4-5) might be a maiden, but she’s already proven her worth against stakes company, running third in a seven-furlong division of the New York Stallion Series S. at Aqueduct last month. She owns the three highest Brisnet Speed ratings in Sunday’s field and should be tough to beat as a single.

Race 5:  $40,000 Claiming (one mile)

#3 Royal Realm (6-5) has been in sharp form since being claimed by trainer Richard Schosberg, placing in a pair of $50,000 starter allowances racing one mile at Aqueduct. He brings tactical speed and strong Brisnet Speed ratings to the mix, stamping the four-year-old gelding as a logical favorite.

Race 6: $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming (six furlongs)

#3 Wudda U Think Now (1-1) finished second over this track and class level on Dec. 18, one start after wiring a 6 1/2-furlong allowance at Belmont Park. He’s posted Brisnet Speed ratings in the 91-99 range in five of his last six starts, so a typical performance should be sufficient to secure victory. On the other hand, #5 Secret Rules (3-1) has run a bit faster on his best day and has been freshened since May, so he can’t be counted out in his first start as a gelding.

Race 7: $8,000 Claiming (one mile)

#3 Flowers for Lisa (5-2) ran second in a $10,000 claimer at Aqueduct two weeks ago, earning an 85 Brisnet Speed rating, but his previous form was less inspiring. #2 Magnetron (4-1) misfired in a $16,000 claimer two weeks ago, but ran second at the $8,000 level two starts back while posting an 85 Brisnet Speed rating. They’re both logical threats, with the class-dropping #1 Legit (7-2) another worth including.

Race 8: Ladies S. (1 1/8 miles)

#5 Miss Leslie (8-5) has posted four straight Brisnet Speed ratings in the 93-97 range and enters off three consecutive victories, including two at the stakes level. She thrived over 1 1/8 miles when dominating the Carousel S. at Laurel Park last month and looks tough to beat on Sunday, although #6 Its Cold in Dehere (5-2)—a sharp allowance optional claiming winner racing 1 1/8 miles at Churchill Downs—has the tactical speed to potentially shake loose on an easy lead.

Race 9: $40,000 Maiden Claiming (one mile)

#5 Miracle Nicky (7-2) is the fastest entrant on paper after finishing second over this track and class level on Dec. 10. But that was a six-furlong sprint, and Miracle Nicky will stretch out over one mile on Sunday. If the longer trip proves problematic, then #3 Silvermill (6-1), #6 Sell Something (20-1), and #8 Cagney (15-1)—three runners exiting maiden special weights on grass—have upset potential.

  • $1 Pick 6: 2 with 3 with 3,5 with 1,2,3 with 5,6 with 3,5,6,8 ($48)

Good luck!
