How to bet Gulfstream's $3,731 Super High 5 carryover

Approximately one minute is all the time it will take for winning bettors to be separated from losing bettors in Saturday’s first race at Gulfstream Park (post time 1:05 p.m. ET), which feature a $3,731 carryover in the $1 Super High 5.

The weekend opener is a $12,500 maiden claimer taking place over approximately five furlongs on Tapeta. Eight three-year-old colts and geldings have been entered, and sorting through them is difficult, because their form lines to date provide relatively little to go by. Only three of the seven experienced runners have finished within a dozen lengths of victory at any class level.

That said, the race does feature a potential standout to key on top. #4 Danger Ranger (5-1) ran third in his debut over this track, distance, and class level on Feb. 25, earning a 70 Brisnet Speed rating that tops Saturday’s field. The strength of the race was reiterated when the winner returned to win his next start against $12,500 claiming company.

Trainer Daniel Pita wins at a solid 14% rate with second-time starters (well above his overall 6% win rate), so the stats suggest Danger Ranger can produce another strong effort on Saturday. A repeat of his debut should be good enough to beat this field.

For second place, Danger Ranger’s stablemate #3 All for Gold (9-2) is a logical choice. The Pita trainee debuted in a $16,000 maiden claimer over the Gulfstream dirt track two months ago, running seventh with a 61 Brisnet Speed rating. If All for Gold improves while dropping in class and switching surfaces for his second start, a top-five finish is well within reach.

#1 Glory and Victory (5-1) and #5 Indeed Indeed (12-1) are two other must-use runners. They were separated by a nose when running fifth and sixth in the above-mentioned Feb. 25 maiden heat, coming home just 1 3/4 lengths behind Danger Ranger while posting 67 Brisnet Speed ratings. Glory and Victory in particular has upside for improvement in his first start as a gelding, and the fact he’ll be ridden by apprentice jockey Ailsa Morrison means Glory and Victory will benefit from a seven-pound weight break.
