How to bet Monmouth Park's $44,480 Pick 5 carryover

August 1st, 2021

Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares an $18 ticket for Sunday’s $44,480 Pick 5 carryover at Monmouth Park.

Race 1: $16,000 Maiden Claiming (12:15 p.m. ET)

#4 Lullaby Land (5-2), #7 Wicked Groove (3-1), and #2 Fast Fashion (4-1) were separated by just 2 1/4 lengths when finishing 2-3-4 over this turf course, class level, and 1 1/16-mile distance on July 17. If we use all three plus #3 Ignition Key (5-1), who is dropping from maiden special weight to maiden claiming company, we should have the opening leg of the Pick 5 covered.

Race 2: $12,500 Claiming (12:42 p.m. ET)

Surely #2 Uncaptured Soldier (3-2) will be tough to beat in this six-furlong dash over the main track? The bay three-year-old employed pace-tracking tactics to win a $16,000 claimer at Monmouth last month, earning a solid 81 Brisnet Speed rating. With his tactical speed as a key weapon, Uncaptured Soldier looks like a logical single in his first start since being claimed by hot trainer Jesus Cruz, a 40% winner this meet.

Race 3: $25,000 Maiden Claiming (1:10 p.m. ET)

Seven juvenile fillies have been entered in this five-furlong dirt sprint, with #2 Kingdom Queen (7-2) perhaps the best of the experienced runners after finishing third by a neck over this class level last month. But the unraced #3 Satisfy U (3-1) is also worth including for hot trainer Jose Camejo, a 30% winner this meet and a solid 18% winner with first-time starters. We’ll round out Race 3 with #7 Don’t Tell Grandma (4-1), who debuts off a series of promising workouts at Monmouth.

Race 4: $30,000 Maiden Claiming (1:40 p.m. ET)

#2 Chrome Finish (3-1) ran a big race to finish second in a $40,000 maiden claimer over this turf course and one-mile distance on June 19. The Steve Asmussen trainee was only beaten a neck while pulling 6 1/4 lengths clear of the rest, so he looms as a formidable favorite while descending to the $30,000 level.

Race 5: $7,500 Claiming (2:11 p.m. ET)

#6 One Night Stand (5-2) seems like a perfect fit for this one-mile and 70-yard event, considering he rallied to finish second by a length over this track, distance, and class level on July 9. But don’t dismiss #2 Tiz Herself (6-1), whose solid 6-1-1-1 record on dirt includes a runner-up effort for a $16,000 tag at Monmouth two months ago. #7 Seahawk Lisa, who is likewise descending from the $16,000 level, is another worth including.

50-cent Pick 5: 2,3,4,7 with 2 with 2,3,7 with 2 with 2,6,7 ($18)

Good luck!
