How to bet Santa Anita's $9,032 Super High 5 carryover
Want to win a share of the $9,032 Super High 5 carryover up for grabs on Sunday at Santa Anita? Then you’ll have to correctly decipher Race 1, a maiden special weight for California-breds dashing five furlongs on turf.
Nine horses have been entered, which means you could play every possible combination of the $1 wager for, oh, $15,120. If your budget isn’t quite that high, we’re here to help you narrow down the options.
At first glance, #3 Oubabe (5-2) seems like a probable winner. The three-year-old colt has finished second in both of his starts sprinting over this course and class level, most recently missing by a head in a six-furlong dash on Feb. 21. Oubabe didn’t get the cleanest trip that day, so an unencumbered run on Sunday could certainly send him to the winner’s circle.

Great Question...
Let's ask @J_Keelerman ⬇️ https://t.co/YH73NuNIYk
But what about #9 All Four Winds (5-1)? The unraced four-year-old hails from the barn of Ruben Alvarado, who is 4-for-6 (67%) lifetime saddling first-time starters and 2-for-3 (67%) debuting horses on turf. These stats bode well for All Four Winds, who arrives at Santa Anita off three straight bullet workouts at the San Luis Rey Training Center.
#4 Arickaree (20-1) and #8 Minister Shane (5-1) are other interesting contenders. Arickaree might be 0-for-10 lifetime, but he consistently throws down competitive Brisnet Speed ratings, and his lone turf start to date yielded a fifth-place finish in an open maiden special weight racing one mile at Golden Gate Fields. The shorter distance and drop into state-bred company can help Arickaree land in the top five at a big price.

Meanwhile, Minister Shane has shown promising form on both dirt and turf. He hasn’t run since June, but he’s trained sharply in preparation for his return and brings a competitive series of Brisnet Speed ratings to the table. He can’t be dismissed from consideration.
So how should we bet the Super High 5? We’ll start by keying All Four Winds on top of our tickets. Then we’ll emphasize Oubabe underneath, figuring his strong recent form and affinity for Santa Anita will be sufficient to land him on the board. Then we’ll spread deep for the remaining slots, covering a variety of combinations in hopes of catching a longshot or two for the minor awards.
