How to bet the 2021 Red Bank Stakes

September 2nd, 2021

A field of seven, with one being a main-track only entrant, will vie in Saturday’s $150,000 Red Bank S. at Monmouth Park.

The one-mile turf test for the boys is led by the multiple graded stakes-placed #6 Value Proposition (4-5) from the barn of Chad Brown. I fully expect the talented son of Dansili to be prominent throughout the eight-furlong feature, but his morning-line price is not enticing to me and I will seek an upset in the tilt.

The Michael Pino-trained #4 Vanzzy (6-1) has put in a pair of solid efforts to commence his four-year-old campaign and could peak a third time back on Saturday. The colt has been a solid performer dating back to his juvenile season, and in his lone previous race at Monmouth he dominated the Jersey Derby S., registering a 107 Brisnet Late Pace figure in his 3 1/2-length romp.

The $70,000 two-year-old purchase possesses fine early pace but has proven on numerous occasions to be competent in rallying from off the early tempo en route to success.

Bred in the Bluegrass State, the colt has been more impressive than it might appear on paper this season. In his outing two back, he finished a strong third in a deep cast of allowance runners at Pimlico, which preceded a tally at Delaware Park last time out when he endured significant traffic issues approaching the turn for home. With clear sailing in the Red Bank, I expect the bay to be a major force in the lane at a nice price.

Value Proposition is the class of the field and a must use in all wagers. The Klaravich color bearer exits a pair of excellent tries at Saratoga against better, and he smoked a bullet five-eighths on the green in advance of his Monmouth debut, as well. Top gun Paco Lopez riding adds to his appeal.

I will treat the feature as a two-horse race with my selections.
