How to bet the 2021 Winter Memories Stakes
A full field of 12 three-year-old fillies will go postward in the $150,000 Winter Memories S. at Aqueduct on Sunday, and a case can be made for numerous runners in the deep and well-matched 1 1/16-mile affair. I had a hard time landing on just a single miss in the field, as three contenders interested me, and the plan is to base my wagers around them.
#11 Runaway Rumour has never put in a poor effort from seven lifetime tries for conditioner Jorge Abreu. The Flintshire sophomore has not been in the winner’s circle following a three-race win streak to kick start her career, but the bay has raced admirably with solid results. Bred in the Empire State, the filly missed by a neck behind Fluffy Socks in the Sands Point S. (G2) most recently, and a repeat of that performance makes her especially dangerous despite her post. Jose Lezcano will be up.
Bill Mott’s #6 White Frost showed marked improvement when moving to the lawn and comes in fresh off the long break for a good layoff conditioner. The Gainesway homebred graduated on the oval when displaying a deft turn of foot in November, and the daughter of Candy Ride followed that performance up with a fine allowance tally at Gulfstream Park. Dark bay is training well and retains Junior Alvarado. She has a high ceiling.
#10 Invincible Gal has been a bit frustrating to me as she has yet to build upon a trio of fine efforts to begin her juvenile season, but the Graham Motion pupil enters in good form since adding blinkers and could be ready to break through on Sunday. Bay has placed in the stakes ranks on five previous occasions, and I thought that she ran well in a big field at Belmont last time out. John Velazquez picking up the mount is a big positive.
