How to bet the 2022 Betty Grable Stakes

A handful of California-bred fillies and mares will travel seven-eighths on the Del Mar dirt in Sunday’s $100,000 Betty Grable S., and Bob Baffert’s #3 Fun to Dream looks impossible to knock off in the affair.

The Arrogate lass is 3-for-4 lifetime, including a facile, 9 3/4-length romp in the Fleet Treat S. on the surface in July. She commenced her career at Santa Anita in May and rolled home to a powerful, 6 1/4-length victory prior to securing stakes success.

The talented filly suffered his first setback when sprinting at Del Mar in her third try, but the gray picked it up a level in her sharp allowance victory while running two turns against open company last time out. Juan Hernandez will guide the standout filly on the move back in with state-bred foes.

#4 Big Novel is the obvious main danger to the favorite for conditioner John Sadler. Mr. Big filly has faced black-type foes on five occasions, and the three-year-old has finished in the top three in each of those outings. The consistent gray sports a 3-0-2-1 mark at Del Mar, and she was also a stakes runner-up in her lone prior try at the seven-furlong distance.

Big Novel comes in fresh for her first run since April with a solid string of recent morning moves, and she will surely benefit from picking up Flavien Prat to ride. I envision Big Novel forcing the tempo early before putting in her best run in the stretch.

Sean McCarthy’s #2 All Dialed In could sneak into the exacta with a well-timed ride from Tyler Baze. The chestnut daughter of Dialed In has never finished worse than third on the dirt, and I will give her a pass for a sub-par showing on the grass in her most recent endeavor. Late-running four-year-old will take back and make one run in the lane.
