How to bet the 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes
A baker’s dozen of three-year-old fillies will go postward in the $250,000 Black-Eyed Susan S. (G3) at Pimlico. The affair attracted a strong crew in a very good renewal of the race, and I have a few value horses of interest to me in the intriguing 1 1/8-mile betting contest.
#12 Favor (8-1) ran a good one in her stakes debut when a clear third in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2), and I will give her a chance at a nice price for Todd Pletcher. The $500,000 Pioneerof the Nile filly had looked the part in two straight wins prior to her graded bow, and while I am not sure what caliber of horse she was defeating in Florida, I surely liked the way in which we handled her business.
The gray has the gate presence to avoid receiving a horrific trip from her wide post, and if she takes an expected step forward at 1 1/8 miles, then the Stonestreet color bearer could surely be in the hunt late with Tyler Gaffalione in the controls.
#10 Adare Manor (5-2) burned money when second in the Santa Anita Oaks (G2) most recently but was flattered when Desert Dawn came back to run third in the Kentucky Oaks (G1). Now in the hands of Sean McCarthy, the Uncle Mo filly dusted her foes in the Las Virgenes S. (G3) by 13 lengths two back, and the dark bay fired a bullet five-eighths in advance of her first run outside of California. John Velazquez retains the mount.
Regional standout #6 Luna Belle (9-2) has reeled off five stakes wins in succession at Laurel Park for conditioner Hamilton Smith. Great Notion filly has been untouchable as of late, though she will face a serious class test on this occasion. Regular rider Denis Araujo will be in the silks.
Tampa stakes heroine #4 Midnight Stroll (15-1), Graham Motion’s improving #8 Candy Light (20-1), Ashland S. (G1) third #9 Interstatedaydream (6-1), and Forward Gal S. (G3) runner-up #11 Radio Days (12-1), each has exotics appeal to me.
