How to bet the 2022 Forward Gal Stakes
A total of seven sophomore fillies will go seven-eighths on the Gulfstream Park main strip in Saturday’s $100,000 Forward Gal S. (G3). The field features multiple fine prospects that could evolve into Grade 1 types with continued progression, but I will make a pace play in the race seeking an upset.
The Robert Reid-trained #4 Disco Ebo might lack the long-term goals of a few of her counterparts in the heat, but the Keystone State-bred filly is the lone speed and I will tab her for a wire-to-wire tally at a fair price. Purchased for $52,000 as a yearling, the daughter of Weigelia is the swiftest gate horse in the cast and has already proven her class in the stakes ranks previously.
Disco Ebo had a three-race win streak snapped in her juvenile finale when finishing unplaced in the Pennsylvania Nursery S., but I feel that she will come out running off the shelf for a solid layoff conditioner. The bay filly will have Frankie Pennington in the stirrups.
#2 Greatitude graduated in style in her second lifetime outing and has a lot of appeal for her three-year-old bow. By Dialed In, the $230,000 two-year-old purchase has gate presence combined with a strong turn of foot, and I feel that she will move forward this campaign as the distances increase. The chestnut is training in lights-out fashion as of late, and she looms large with Irad Ortiz picking up the mount.
Unbeaten #5 Radio Days won at first asking for Shug McGaughey, which doesn’t happen on a regular basis, and the Gun Runner filly followed up her debut victory with an allowance romp at Aqueduct next time out while looking like the real deal. The $750,000 yearling buy has displayed a devastating turn of foot to this stage of her development, and if she continues to rise, then the dark bay could really be any kind in the future. She is a must use with Dylan Davis retaining the mount.
Patrick Biancone’s #7 Diamond Wow ran a trio of excellent races at two and has trained well in the interim. The Lookin at Lucky lass has run well on the dirt and the green, and the chestnut is an obvious top-three contender despite drawing widest of all in the heat.
