How to bet the 2022 Gowell Stakes

December 30th, 2022

An overflow field of 14 two-year-old fillies will go six furlongs on the Turfway Park all-weather oval in Saturday’s $125,000 Gowell S. The ultra-competitive affair features numerous legitimate contenders in what appears to be a very attractive betting endeavor.

#1 Jersey Pearl (12-1) is a must-use in the dash while making her debut for conditioner Darrin Miller. Chestnut daughter of Bee Jersey was an even fourth in a grassy debut at Ellis Park prior to registering an excellent maiden special weight victory on the dirt at Keeneland last time out. Bred in the Bluegrass State, the March foal is a mystery on the synthetic while making her local bow, but she drew the rail and has the early presence to possibly clear this field in the early going. Abel Lezcano has the assignment.

#8 Miss River Rat (12-1) boasts a big turn of foot in a field with an abundance of pace signed on for trainer Chris Block. Will Take Charge filly has displayed ability on both the dirt and turf from a pair of races on her ledger, and the March foal will be fit for this contest following a pair of nice morning moves in the interim. Fernando de la Cruz will be in the silks and rallying the Illinois-bred from well back early on.

Michael Stidham’s #10 Ruby Foo (10-1) romped on debut at Presque Isle Downs prior to rallying for a solid runner-up finish on the Fair Grounds dirt last time out. By More Than Ready, the chestnut two-year-old figures to receive a favorable set-up from near midpack to the top of the lane. The Keystone State-bred will have Chris Landeros in the stirrups.

#6 Whatchamacall (7-2) might be the speed of the speed for conditioner Jose Delgado. The gray Frosted filly has romped to a pair of wins in succession, led by a fine allowance triumph on the all-weather at Gulfstream Park most recently, and the $15,000 yearling purchase drew well outside of some of the major pace in the field, as well. Gerardo Corrales will be in the silks.
