How to bet the 2022 King Edward Stakes

A very interesting field of seven will go postward in Sunday’s $200,000 King Edward S. (G2) at Woodbine. The one-mile turf event attracted five graded stakes victors, as well as a Canadian classic star, in what could be one of the more exciting races on the card.

Roger Attfield’s #3 Shirl’s Speight (5-2) bagged the Maker’s Mark Mile (G1) at Keeneland in the spring, and while he has been off form since securing that signature win, the bay seems well placed to return to his winning ways against this fine field.

The son of Speightstown didn’t fire when behind a slow pace in the Connaught Cup (G2) last time out, but the shape of the race will be much different on Sunday, which will aid the late runner. He will be rating well off of the early tempo prior to putting in his winning run in the lane. Emma-Jayne Wilson will be in the silks once again.

#7 March to the Arch (8-1), who won the event in 2020 prior to finishing third in 2021, continues to display his smart turn of foot for Mark Casse. The gelded son of Arch has compiled a 7-3-2-1 mark on the course and comes in off of a runner-up effort in the Connaught Cup in his initial try since January. Florida-bred seven-year-old shows a pair of solid half-mile drills in advance of Sunday and will be making one-run late beneath Husbands.

#2 Filo Di Arianna (2-1), also from the Casse shedrow, has been very sharp in two recent victories at this venue. The Group 2-winning Brazilian import is 6-for-8 in his career with obvious room for improvement, and the six-year-old will be super tough in this offering with any kind of forward move off of his latest showing. Likely one to beat will have Kaz Kimura in the stirrups.

I feel that the race will come down to the aforementioned trio.
