How to bet the 2022 Monmouth Stakes
A big field of 12 turf performers will travel nine panels on the green in Saturday’s $150,000 Monmouth S. (G3). Trainer Chad Brown has a pair of live players in the cast, including #3 Public Sector, who ripped off a trio of graded stakes wins in succession last season.
By Kingman, the four-year-old didn’t fire in his seasonal bow when always well back in the Turf Classic S. (G1) at Churchill Downs on Derby Day, but he will benefit from having a start off the long absence and move forward considerably in this test.
Public Sector possesses a big turn of foot and will enjoy the class relief on Saturday. The bay colt has posted four well-spaced turf drills in advance of Saturday, and the British-bred will benefit from the addition of pilot John Velazquez. I will back the late-runner despite the possibility that there will be a modest tempo.
Canadian Classic winner #7 Safe Conduct looks like the one to catch for conditioner Phil Serpe. The Bodemeister colt was a decisive allowance victor in an allowance heat at Belmont most recently and surely has room for improvement while making his third appearance of 2022. Jose Lezcano will guide the four-year-old.
It's a hot one today Ontario horsepeople! Be sure to keep yourself and your horses cool, have plenty of water with you!

#6 Sacred Life owns class and a strong stretch kick for Brown. The battle-tested seven-year-old has run with top company for numerous seasons and is an obvious top-three inclusion to me. The son of Siyouni showed an affinity for the course in his lone local try when taking the 2020 Oceanport S. (G3), and his best showing will have him in the mix inside the final furlong. Manny Franco inherits the ride.
#1 Yes This Time put in a solid prep for Saturday when rallying to be fourth in the Cliff Hanger S. on the lawn here, and expected improvement off of that try will give him a chance to make the frame late after saving ground throughout beneath Paco Lopez. The Kelly Breen charge will offer value to the gimmicks.
