How to bet the 2022 Turfway Prevue Stakes
A talented field of nine will travel 6 1/2 furlongs on the Tapeta surface at Turfway Park in Saturday’s $100,000 Turfway Prevue S. The good betting contest boasts numerous legitimate contenders in the cast and I will take a chance on a sophomore from the Brad Cox barn.
#6 Kaely’s Brother will make his first run on the All-Weather strip on Saturday, and I expect the son of Twirling Candy to thrive in his synthetic debut. The bay colt was unplaced in his first career start at Ellis Park but moved up considerably second out when scoring over a nice field of special weight foes at Keeneland.
Kaely’s Brother was elevated to first in the subsequent Jean Laffitte S. at Delta Downs, prior to making a belated run to be fifth, beaten by 3 1/4 lengths, in the Sugar Bowl S. at Fair Grounds most recently. He comes back quickly for this event which is a positive sign from a top-notch outfit. I envision the colt tracking a swift pace before moving to the fore in early stretch beneath Joe Talamo. He will be my key horse.
#2 Nobals is a nose shy of being unbeaten from a trio of synthetic races in his career for trainer Larry Rivelli. By Noble Mission, the gelded three-year-old owns tactical speed and a quick turn of foot, and the Kentucky-bred will be well placed to make an impact in the race turning for home. He finished a creditable fifth, beaten by less than two lengths, against stakes foes on the Del Mar lawn in his most recent endeavor.
#1 Determined Kingdom has lacked consistency to date, but the son of Animal Kingdom can be very good on his best day. Trained by Phil Schoenthal, the bay gelding has displayed a swift turn of foot in turf sprints on a few occasions, and the multiple stakes hero can surely be in the mix from the start with a clean break from the rail. Victor Rosales comes in to ride, which is a positive sign.
For the lower rungs of the vertical exotics, I will include #3 Private Road. The Jim Spicer pupil ran evenly in a local allowance in his first appearance on the surface, and he will progress in his second attempt at Turfway. The More Than Ready gelding has improved his Brisnet Speed figure in each lifetime performance, and another move forward will have him challenging for a placing at a big price.
