How to bet the 2025 Doubledogdare Stakes

A fantastic field of seven fillies and mares will travel 1 1/16 miles on the Keeneland dirt in Friday’s $350,000 Doubledogdare S. (G3). The feature attracted four previous graded stakes heroines, including two of the Grade 1 kind, in an exciting affair with an abundance of quality to it.
Doubledogdare Wagers
- $25 win #1 Just F Y I ($25)
- $1 superfecta 1,6 with 1,5,6,7 with 1,5,6,7 with 1,5,6,7 ($12)
Champion #1 Just F Y I (7-2) capped a fine two-year-old season in 2023 with a game Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) triumph for conditioner Bill Mott. The Justify homebred was winless in a trio of races at three, but she earned runner-up results in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Ashland S. (G1) among her efforts.
The bay made her 2025 debut at Gulfstream Park on March 13 and ran like a horse who might have needed a race when leading to the turn for home and being outrun in the lane when second best. She will benefit a great deal from having an outing under her belt in advance of Friday, and from a tactical standpoint, the four-year-old has an edge over her main foes due to her good gate presence. She has posted bullet morning drills in two of her last three works and looms large beneath regular pilot Junior Alvarado.
#6 Candied (8-5) will make her first appearance following a third-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Del Mar in November. The Candy Ride four-year-old bagged the 2023 Alcibiades S. (G1) on the course, and she was also third in the Spinster S. (G1) at Keeneland as a sophomore, as well. The Todd Pletcher trainee has trained well in preparation for her seasonal debut and she will be a menacing figure in the stretch if she produces something close to her best showing. Irad Ortiz, Jr. has the assignment.
Three-time Grade 2 winner #5 Tarifa (3-1) checked in third in the Beholder Mile (G1) at Santa Anita to commence her four-year-old campaign and will improve in this spot for trainer Brad Cox. The Godolphin homebred was a smart debut winner in her lone local run on the surface and could sit a dream trip from third to the top of the stretch with Luis Saez in the stirrups.
#7 Occult (7-2) was second in the 2024 Spinster (G1) and has won or placed in eight of her last nine tilts for conditioner Chad Brown. The Into Mischief mare is not my strongest win contender in the group, but she rates as an obvious exotics threat with Flavien Prat taking the reins.
