How to bet the Belmont 2-Day Pick 4

A number of multi-race wagers are available for the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival on Friday and Saturday, including special two-day wagers for the New York/Met Mile, Belmont Gold Cup/Belmont S. (G1), plus Pick 4 and Pick 6 wagers covering races on both Friday and Saturday’s cards.

Below we dive into the two-day Pick 4, which includes the New York S. (Friday), Intercontinental S. (Friday), Manhattan S. (Saturday), and Belmont S. (Saturday).

New York S. (G1): 1 1/4 miles, inner turf, fillies and mares four years old and up; Race 10, Friday, June 10 (5:50 p.m. ET)

#2 Rougir (6-5) is the top selection among the four Chad Brown runners entered in the seven-horse field in Friday’s New York S. The 6-5 morning line favorite last won the 1 1/16-mile Beaugay S. (G3) by three lengths at Belmont on May 14 in her first start with Brown. Hot jockey Flavien Prat (a 27% winner on turf the last two months) will retain the mount for the French-bred four-year-old.

Rougir will break from Gate 2, alongside #3 Virginia Joy, another intriguing Brown pupil. The five-year-old is 2-for-2 this season and last romped to a 14 1/4-length victory in gate-to-wire fashion in the 1 3/8-mile Sheepshead Bay S. (G2) at this track on May 7. She’ll stay with rider Trevor McCarthy, a 25% winner when paired up with Brown over the last two months.

Rougir's toughest competition, however, may be stablemate #5 Bleecker Street (5-2), who is undefeated in six career starts but has yet to run at Belmont. Following a win with Prat aboard in the Modesty (G3) at Churchill Downs on May 6, Bleecker Street will get a rider switch to Irad Ortiz (a 31% winner on turf and 30% winner paired up with Brown).

Intercontinental S. (G3): six furlongs, turf, fillies and mares four years old and up; Race 11, Friday, June 10 (6:22 p.m. ET)

#7 Caravel (4-1) disappointed in her second start for trainer Brad Cox, coming home sixth in the 5 1/2-furlong Turf Sprint S. (G2) on May 6 at Churchill Downs. Tyler Gaffalione, a 17% winner on turf the last two months, will stay with the gray mare for her graded stakes effort on Friday.

The morning line favorite is beatable and should be challenged by four-year-old #4 Tobys Heart (5-1), who won last out in a 5 1/2-furlong sprint at Churchill Downs May 5 under Jose Ortiz.

Jose’s brother Irad will hop off rival #9 Illegal Smile (10-1) to ride Chad Brown trainee #12 Nevisian Sunrise (8-1), who will cut back in distance after running a mile on turf in her last five starts. The War Front filly could spring an upset in her first try at a sprint on grass.

Manhattan S. (G1): 1 1/4 miles, inner turf, four-year-olds and up; Race 10, Saturday, June 11 (5:38 p.m. ET)

After losing by a length to #8 Highland Chief (6-1) in the Man O’ War S. (G1) at Belmont on May 14, #2 Gufo (3-1) will get a shot at redemption for conditioner Christophe Clement, a 28% (20-for-71) winner this meet. Regular rider Joel Rosario will guide the five-year-old in his seventh start at the track, where Gufo is 6 2-2-2 for his career.

Last out, Highland Chief benefited from a slow pace in the Man O’ War to pull off a massive upset over Gufo and odds-on favorite Yibir, the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) champ.

Four-year-old #9 Santin (7-2) will also re-oppose rivals from his most recent outing, the Turf Classic at Churchill Downs. The Distorted Humor colt beat third-place finisher #4 Adhamo (4-1) by six lengths, with #7 Tribhuvan (8-1) further back in fifth.

#10 Channel Maker (8-1) could also factor for trainer Bill Mott, a 24% winner with horses that won their last race. In the eight-year-old’s season debut at Keeneland in April, the chestnut gelding flashed a 102 Brisnet Speed figure in a 1 1/4-length win in the Elkhorn S. (G2), run at 1 1/2 miles.

Belmont S. (G1): 1 1/2 miles, dirt, three-year-olds; Race 11, Saturday, June 11 (6:44 p.m. ET)

#1 We The People (2-1) is fresh off a 10 1/4-length triumph in the Peter Pan (G3) at Belmont on May 14. The Constitution colt drew the favorable rail post and will be involved from the start in Saturday’s main event.

But two Todd Pletcher runners could upend the morning line favorite. #6 Mo Donegal (5-2) will get his first start since his troubled fifth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and has the late speed to return to the winner’s circle in his first test at 1 1/2 miles.

Stablemate #3 Nest (8-1) will get her first start against the boys following her disappointing second in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) last out. The daughter of Curlin has the pedigree to stretch out to 1 1/2 miles and could become the fourth filly since Rags to Riches (also trained by Pletcher) to win the Belmont. Her 8-1 morning line odds make her an enticing play in the final leg of our Pick 4 ticket.
