How to bet the Count Fleet Stakes
A high-quality field of 11 will travel 6-furlongs in Saturday’s $350,000 Count Fleet (G3) at Oaklawn Park.
Count Fleet Analysis
#4 Bobby’s Wicked One is the inside pace of the race coming off two wire-to-wire wins in succession. #6 Mr. Jagermeister, #7 Hidden Scroll, and #10 Share the Upside will be forcing the pace from the outside. The tempo of the Count Fleet will be swift, which will improve the chances of the off-the-pace contenders.
Count Fleet Contenders
#1 LEXITONIAN (30-1) -- Grade 3 victor makes his 2020 debut from the tricky rail slot for Sisterson. Chestnut colt has trained well in preparation of his 4-year-old bow, but he will need a lifetime best to challenge this stout cast in the stretch.
#2 FLAGSTAFF (7-2) -- West Coast invader is a model of consistency as one of the top one-turn performers in the Golden State. Sadler charge could peak third time off the bench with Rosario in the stirrups.
#3 HOG CREEK HUSTLE (15-1) -- Underrated Grade 1 star has chased wire-to-wire winners in both 2020 assignments, and figures to get a great set up on Saturday. Overanalyze colt cuts back in distance and seems poised for a top showing in his third seasonal engagement.
#4 BOBBY’S WICKED ONE (3-1) -- 5-year-old son of Speightstown has been brilliant in his last two performances and looms large while making his Oaklawn debut. Chestnut shows three solid local drills, and he will come flying out of the gate under regular pilot Mena.
#5 WENDELL FONG (30-1) -- Interesting stakes winner came home a good third in the Hot Springs S. in his first outing since the summer. Englehart trainee possesses a lot of ability, and the dark bay wouldn’t be a total surprise if he runs to his recent works second time back. David Cohen rides.
#6 MR. JAGERMEISTER (15-1) -- Multiple stakes hero led to midstretch prior to finishing second in a local prep for the Count Fleet. A son of Atta Boy Roy, 5-year-old has been first or second in all three local tries, and he will be forcing the pace early on with Thompson in the silks.
#7 HIDDEN SCROLL (4-1) -- Wildcard in the field can be electric on his best days, evidenced by his dominant allowance tally at Gulfstream Park most recently. Mott pupil is lightly raced with room for improvement, but he must prove that he is of this caliber going 6-panels. Martin Garcia inherits the mount.
#8 MANNY WAH (30-1) -- Outsider showed little in a local allowance run for Catalano last time out. Capable chestnut does show a rapid four-furlong drill as of late, however, and he could challenge for a share if he runs to that morning move.
#9 WHITMORE (5-2) -- Top-notch sprinter has put in a pair of fine efforts at the meeting for Moquett. Pleasantly Perfect gelding has finished in the top three in each of his 13 career outings at Oaklawn, and he has to be on most or all tickets with Talamo riding.
#10 SHARE THE UPSIDE (10-1) -- Gelded son of Maclean’s Music is 4-for-6 on the course and could improve in his third off the shelf. Asmussen trainee owns big early speed and will be in the clear while pressing the action from the break. Florent Gerox riding is a positive.
#11 NITROUS (20-1) -- Grade-1 placed Tapit colt draws widest of all for his 4-year-old debut for Asmussen. Kentucky-bred is a stakes winner at Oaklawn, and he will be making one run from well off the pace on Saturday.
