How to bet the 2024 Ladies Turf Sprint Stakes

February 9th, 2024

A total of nine fillies and mares will run five-eighths on the Gulfstream Park lawn in Sunday’s $100,000 Ladies Turf Sprint S. I’m going to take a shot with the Timmy Hills-trained #2 Glitter Up, who led late before finishing fourth in the Abundantia S. on the surface in her second appearance since the summer.

Ladies Turf Wagers

  • $12 win and place #2 Glitter Up ($24)
  • $1 superfecta 1,2 with 1,2 with 4 with all ($12)
  • $1 superfecta 1,2 with 1,2 with all with 4 ($12)
  • 50-cent superfecta 1,2 with 1,2,4 with 1,2,4 with all ($12)

Glitter Up is a later developing mare who is set for a big season, in my opinion. The daughter of Connect has found her niche as a turf sprinter, and the bay is the inside pace of this race, as well. She drilled a nice five-eighths leading up to Sunday, and the price will be right with Javier Castellano in the silks.

#1 Stone Silent gave a nice impression of herself with a measured victory in the Abundantia S. while making her first start since joining the barn of Brian Lynch. The four-year-old daughter of Adios Charlie was purchased for $170,000 in November and looks to be well worth the investment at the moment. Bred in the Sunshine State, the filly proved to be capable of running from off of the early pace last time out, and improvement is likely for her second run of 2024. Junior Alvarado has the call atop the prime win candidate.

Jorge Delgado’s #4 Baby Steps finished runner-up in the Sunshine Million Filly and Mare Turf at one mile last time out and cuts back to a sprint voyage in this spot. The Jimmy Creed chestnut has been first or second in each of her trio of lifetime tries on the course leading up to Sunday and has obvious room to move forward in her second showing since September. The talented Florida bred will be in the second flight early before being asked for her best in the lane with David Egan retaining the mount, and she wouldn't be a surprise in the heat.
