How to bet the Natalma Stakes

September 18th, 2020

Seven well-matched 2-year-old fillies will contest Sunday’s $250,000 Natalma (G1) on the Woodbine lawn. A berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) is on the line in the “Win and You’re In” affair.

Natalma Analysis

The early tempo could be swift in the Natlama, as #1 Stunning Princess, #4 Dreaming of Drew, and #6 Lady Speightspeare, are all capable of showing speed from the break.

Natalma Contenders

#1 STUNNING PRINCESS -- Speedy sort from the Gargan barn led in the stretch only to be reeled in late when second in both lifetime appearances to date. Cairo Prince filly will receive Lasix for the initial time on Sunday, and she will capitalize from her inner post slot under Kimura. Kentucky-bred drilled a bullet half-mile in preparation of her stakes debut.

#2 SEASONS -- Top pick raced greenly but still came out victorious on debut at Saratoga for Jimmy Toner. Well-bred daughter of Tapit shows a trio of promising morning moves since that performance, and the chestnut figures to receive a solid pace to rally into in her initial Grade 1 try. Luis Contreras has the call.

#3 SLEEK LYNX -- Casse second timer was more than seven lengths clear of third when a smart runner-up in her debut at Gulfstream. $335,000 juvenile purchase comes in fresh and shows a trio of works on this turf course in preparation of Sunday, as well. Marked improvement is expected with top jock Hernandez in the silks.

#4 DREAMING OF DREW -- Top-three contender ran a winning race in defeat when falling just short in the local Catch A Glimpse S. last time out. Minshall pupil has moved forward in each lifetime outing to date, and she would be of little surprise under the guidance of Justin Stein.

#5 ALDA -- Catch a Glimpse S. heroine has a powerful turn of foot and figures to thrive with the added distance for Graham Motion. Munnings chestnut seems poised for another big showing following a sharp 5-furlong move in anticipation of her graded bow. Steven Bahen retains the mount.

#6 LADY SPEIGHTSPEARE -- Attfield trainee cruised on debut when leading throughout in a fine first offering. Homebred has come back with two good morning drills, including a bullet five-eighths most recently, and she figures to be forwardly placed once again with Emma-Jayne in the stirrups.

#7 BIG BIG PLANS -- Point of Entry filly was a fine debut winner against much softer on the main strip, but she landed in a very difficult spot for a turf and route debut. March foal would be a fairly big surprise facing this cast.
