A field of nine Arkansas-bred runners will travel 6 furlongs in the $100,000 Nodouble Breeders’ S. at Oaklawn Park on Saturday.
Nodouble Breeders’ Analysis
#2 Heritage Park has been forwardly placed in both tries off the shelf and will be in the hunt early as the inside pace of the field. Top pick #6 Hoonani Road is also a very good gate horse, and he will force the issue from the start. The early tempo will be moderate for the level.
Nodouble Breeders’ Contenders
#1 ROCK CITY ROADHOG (12-1) -- Valid Expectations 10-year-old draws the rail in hopes of securing an eighth career win at Oaklawn. Doug Anderson charge has not been especially sharp from a pair of 2020 outings, though he could peak third time off the break. Ramon Vazquez will guide the exotics contender.
#2 HERITAGE PARK (6-1) -- Jersey Town gelding has never been better coming off two wins in succession to commence his 2020 campaign. Kenny Smith trainee could be the early leader in his stakes debut with Alex Birzer signed on.
#3 K J’S NOBILITY (5-2) -- Chestnut finished fourth in this race in 2019 and brings excellent form to the field this time around. Cecil Borel pupil exits a sharp allowance victory on the oval, and the morning-line choice looms large with anything resembling that outing on Saturday. He will be stalking the pace early beneath Calvin Borel.
#4 J. E.’S HANDMEDOWN (6-1) -- Four-time local hero improved in a second run off the long absence when facing a few of today’s contenders most recently. 6-year-old gelding has a great running style to sit a nice trip and be a player inside the final furlong with even slight improvement in this endeavor.
#5 BANDIT POINT (5-1) -- Robert Cline trainee rides in on a two-race win streak over the course. The deep closer will be doing his best work late, and his chances improve if the pace is fast and contested.
#6 HOONANI ROAD (3-1) -- Top selection dominated this race last campaign and looks set for a peak performance in his fourth start since May. Jonesboro 5-year-old dons a superb 9-7-1-1 line at Oaklawn Park, and the chestnut will receive a perfect voyage while forcing the action from a good post slot beneath regular pilot Channing Hill.
#7 DESTINY WAY (6-1) -- Lightly raced Deville trainee makes his stakes debut in a tough spot. Hamazing gelding is 2-for-3 lifetime, with both victories coming over a muddy Oaklawn strip. The 4-year-old moves up if there are wet conditions on Saturday.
#8 GLACKEN’S GHOST (15-1) -- Smoke Glacken gelding is not overly consistent, but he has been first or second in half of his lifetime runs on the surface. Robertson trainee has back class, and the gray will show marked improvement in his second assignment of the season. Alex Canchari will be in the stirrups.
#9 RACER (30-1) -- Longshot draws widest in the field, and he has not finished in the top three in his last 10 starts. The bay looks overmatched under Quinonez.
