How to bet the Oklahoma Derby and Remington Park Oaks

The signature day of the Remington Park meeting will take place on Sunday. A total of eight stakes races are on tap during the 11-race card, led by a pair of competitive graded tilts. 

Oklahoma Derby (G3)

The $200,000 event for sophomores attracted a field of nine. I am favoring the outside trio in the cast, with a slight edge going to the surging #7 Avant Garde (6-1) in his stakes debut. Claimed for $10,000 in June, the son of Tonalist has been dominant while posting four wins in succession for Lander. Gelded bay is a question mark from a class standpoint while making a big class rise, but he lands in a logical spot to give a good account of himself in the Derby.

Ohio Derby (G3) winner #9 Dean Martini (7-2) was in the hunt to the top of the lane before fading late in the Ellis Park Derby last time out, and he should find this field more to his liking for Amoss. Cairo Prince gelding had won or placed in eight straight prior to his latest, and he has trained swiftly in preparation of Sunday, as well.

#8 Mo Mosa (8-1) is also interesting coming off a fine allowance romp at Ellis Park. Mike Maker trainee makes his second off the layoff and could move forward while in the mix early on under Vasquez.

Remington Park Oaks (G3)

Eight 3-year-old fillies will travel 1 1/16 miles on the dirt in the $100,000 affair. Ashland (G1) third #4 Envoutante (7-5) is the class of the field, but I am taking a shot with West Coast invader #6 Paige Anne (9-2) for the top prize. Third in the Torrey Pines (G3) at Del Mar last time out, the Simon Callaghan pupil has the speed to be on top or forcing the pace early on. And the daughter of Take Charge Indy could be tough to pass in the stretch with Sophie Doyle taking the reins.

I expect the race to boil down to the aforementioned duo inside the final furlong, and my wagers will be centered around the pair of talented fillies.
