How to bet the Rainbow Stakes

A field of 10 Arkansas-bred sophomores will contest Friday’s $100,000 Rainbow S. at Oaklawn Park.
Rainbow Analysis
#10 Zaino Boyz is the clear pace of the 6-furlong event from the outside post. He will be unopposed in the early stages of the Rainbow.
Rainbow Contenders
#1 HAMAZING WISDOM (15-1) -- Exotics contender rallied for a fine debut win on the surface prior to showing little with allowance foes last time out. Danny Pish pupil draws well on the rail, and the gelding will save ground throughout under the guidance of Quinonez.
#2 CAPTAIN DON (4-1) -- Chestnut from the Von Hemel barn didn’t handle the mud in an allowance try last time, but he performed well in his first pair of races at the meeting. Gelded son of Flat Out has gate speed and will get first run on the favorite turning for home. Walter de la Cruz will be in the stirrups.
#3 CHICKEN HAWK (15-1) -- Son of Jonesboro failed as the favorite when outrun in the stretch against maidens in advance of his stakes debut. Bay colt has flashed ability, but he looks to be in a tough spot on this occasion.
#4 IMPLICATOR (12-1) -- Top-three contender is one of two from the Moquett barn. Race Day gelding is winless from three lifetime races, but he has displayed a useful turn of foot on each occasion. Sophomore could earn a share with a well-timed ride by Mena.
#5 JIMMIE T (15-1) -- Maiden from the Dallas Stewart shedrow ran his best race to date going long on this course in his latest outing. Will Take Charge colt has little early presence and will need to come from far back early on under Brian Hernandez Jr.
#6 TEMPT FATE (7-2) -- Son of Hamazing Destiny was superb off the claim for Deville when dominating special weight foes on the strip most recently. The performance coincided with the addition of blinkers, and he is the main danger to the favorite with improvement on Friday. Corey Lanerie picks up the ride.
#7 MAN IN THE CAN (8-1) -- Twice-raced Moquett charge was a smart debut victor in the winter, and he flashed some potential in an uneven attempt in his local bow last out. Can in the Man colt makes a big move to get Rosario in the silks, and the 3-year-old could be dangerous if he runs to his recent 4-furlong work.
#8 TEN BUDS (15-1) -- Gelded son of Laurie’s Rocket responded to the addition of blinkers most recently when graduating on the oval. Martin trainee takes a big class hike, however, and he will need another step forward to make the frame today.
#9 PIECE OF WORK (20-1) -- Milligan pupil has shown little in the stretch in a pair of tries at the meeting. Bay has some early foot, but he is hard to endorse in his current form cycle.
#10 ZAINO BOYZ (8-5) -- Fleet colt is the pace and class of the cast in his first try for Hartman. Daaher colt romped against open company at Gulfstream Park last time out, and he will be tough to challenge with a repeat of that performance. Talamo picks up the mount.
