A talented field of seven sophomore fillies will go postward in Sunday’s $500,000 Saratoga Oaks Invitational. The 1 3/16-mile turf affair is led by the top-four finishers of the recent Lake Placid (G2).
Saratoga Oaks Analysis
In a field void of pace, import #6 Ricetta could be on the front end early on, with #3 Antoinette in close attendance throughout.
Saratoga Oaks Contenders
#1 SPEAKTOMEOFSUMMER -- Two-time stakes vixen rallied well for a narrow score in the Lake Placid most recently for Clement. Summer Front filly is 3-for-4 on the turf in her career, and she has room for improvement while making her third appearance of 2020. Dark bay will be running from off the pace under Rosario.
#2 ENOLA GAY -- Dangerous sort from the McGaughey barn was best in the Appalachian (G2) at Keeneland in her most recent performance. Uncle Mo filly is lightly raced, and she has the positional speed to get first run on the deep closing types on the stretch out on Sunday. Jose Ortiz rides.
#3 ANTOINETTE -- Hard Spun lass was third on the dirt in the Coaching Club Oaks (G1) at this venue last time and moves to the lawn in this affair. Mott pupil is Grade 3 placed on the green and could be a top-three presence with a forward move under John Velazquez.
#4 STUNNING SKY -- Lake Placid runner-up just missed in her local debut and is an obvious contender with any kind of forward move on Sunday. Daughter of Declaration of War was closer to the pace in her latest showing, and she could employ the same tactics against this cast with Irad in the stirrups.
#5 KEY BISCAYNE -- Florida-bred gave a nice account of herself when a close fourth in the Lake Placid last time out. Alvarado trainee is still not proven at the graded level, but her local performance was encouraging and she is not without a chance in a well-matched field.
#6 RICETTA -- Second from the Mott barn will make her U. S. debut in the Oaks. Juddmonte homebred flashed speed overseas in her trio of assignments to date, and she could be in the mix early on in a race lacking early zip. Camelot filly will be on all of my tickets with Castellano in the controls.
#7 QUEENS EMBRACE -- Consistent Real Solution filly closed from well off the pace to register a third-place result in the Lake Placid for O’Connell. Kentucky-bred has won four of her last six in total, but the outside draw combined with a slow early tempo could hurt her chances. Tyler Gaffalione has the call.
