How to bet the Solana Beach Stakes

August 14th, 2020

A cast of six California-bred fillies and mares will vie in Saturday’s $125,000 Solana Beach S. on the Del Mar turf.

Solana Beach Analysis

I expect there to be a solid early tempo in the Solana Beach. #2 Cordiality will be sent from her post to gain an early edge, with #3 Big Sweep likely forcing the tempo. #1 Sedamar and #7 Kitty Boom Boom will show some interest from the start as well.

Solana Beach Contenders

#1 SEDAMAR (5-1) -- Shelbie Ruis trainee likes the local lawn with a 6-3-1-1 mark at Del Mar. Richard’s Kid filly was a decent fourth in the Osunitas S. on the course most recently, and the 4-year-old draws the rail for her third run off the shelf. Bay will be stalking the pace while saving ground under Brice Blanc.

#2 CORDIALITY (3-1) -- Papa Clem mare was a winner of this race in 2018. Horse for the course sports a 6-3-2-0 at Del Mar and has won stakes races in two of her last three tries dating back to 2019 for Yakteen. The 7-year-old is the one to catch beneath Rispoli.

#3 BIG SWEEP (5-1) -- Two-time stakes victress makes her grassy debut for Mark Glatt. Versatile and talented daughter of Mr. Big is 3-for-4 lifetime, and she has the pedigree to thrive in her initial turf outing. Bay sophomore gets the upset nod over her elders with Cedillo in the stirrups.

#4 MUCHO UNUSUAL (8-5) -- Grade 2 heroine is the class of the field for Yakteen. Mucho Macho Man 4-year-old is twice Grade 1-placed from her last four assignments, and the strong late runner should receive ample pace to aid her kick in the stretch as well. Flavien Prat riding adds to the appeal.

#5 PULPIT RIDER (6-1) -- Consistent sort from the barn of Mike Puype was a solid third in a local allowance try on the course in preparation for her third start of 2020. Bay Lucky Pulpit mare has won or placed in three of five local affairs, and she will stalk the action early on with Hernandez back in the silks.

#6 SMILING SHIRLEE (12-1) -- Scratched.

#7 KITTY BOOM BOOM (12-1) -- Tizbud filly will make her first run since the winter for Baltas. Stakes heroine draws outside in the field and went unplaced in her lone local assignment at Del Mar. The bay is training well and has the tactical speed to keep touch early on, but she faces a tough task off the shelf with Mike Smith riding.

Solana Beach Wagers
