A field of seven will go postward in Saturday’s $75,000 Unbridled S. at Gulfstream Park. The competitive 1 1/16-mile contest for 3-year-olds features several stakes-quality runners, but my focus is on a youngster who will be making his black-type debut.
Unbridled Analysis
#1 Necker Island has pace and will be sent from the break by Dylan Davis. Stakes winner #4 Relentless Dancer has been prominent against better in 2020, and the colt will also be challenging for the top spot in the early going. The tempo should be swift into the first turn.
Unbridled Contenders
#1 NECKER ISLAND (12-1) -- Hard Spun colt has finished fifth in both Grade 3 attempts in 2020 and will appreciate the class relief for Hough. Kentucky-bred will be first or second while saving ground early beneath Davis.
#2 AMERICANUS (6-1) -- Hennig pupil was a solid allowance victor on the course in advance of his third run of the season. Homebred boasts a lot of potential and rates a chance from off the pace under Zayas.
#3 DR POST (8-5) -- Top pick was ultra-impressive in a maiden score on the oval for Pletcher. Son of Quality Road has a lot of room for improvement, and he should thrive getting more ground to work with as well. Irad inherits the live mount.
#4 RELENTLESS DANCER (6-1) -- Fleet Midshipman colt is an all-or-nothing type for Maker who could be dangerous if he clears early on. Cajun-bred is a question mark at the distance, but he wouldn’t be a shocker with Landeros in the stirrups.
#5 SOUTH BEND (4-1) -- Consistently strong closer has proven his ability on both the dirt and turf for Hough. Algorithms sophomore is battle-tested with six consecutive stakes tries coming in, and he also possesses the best turn of foot in the field.
#6 SOROS (15-1) -- Smooth Air S. star was outrun when fifth in a strong allowance field in his most recent offering. Chestnut has room for improvement in his second start of the season, and he could rally for a share late with expected improvement on Saturday beneath Jaramillo.
#7 ATTACHMENT RATE (3-1) -- Romans trainee was a dominant maiden winner on the surface two back, prior to finishing a nice third in the Gotham (G3) in his latest endeavor. Hard Spun colt has fine current form and is proven at Gulfstream Park in preparation for his two-turn bow. Luis Saez will guide the obvious win contender.
