How to bet With, and Against, Agoo in the Sugar Bowl Stakes

December 21st, 2023

A total of six colts will speed three-quarters of a mile on the Fair Grounds dirt in Saturday’s $100,000 Sugar Bowl S. #3 Agoo (7-5) has been first or second in each of his trio of career runs to date, led by a sharp runner-up effort in the Eddie Brown S. last time out, and he looms large for conditioner Whitworth Beckman. The son of Munnings has improved his Brisnet Speed figure on each lifetime assignment in preparation for Saturday, and the $190,000 purchase also shows a pair of solid local morning drills, as well.

Agoo – With

  • $35 exacta 3 with 4 ($35)
  • $15 exacta 3 with 6 ($15)

Agoo – Against

  • $10 trifecta 4,6 with 3,4,6 with 3,4,6 ($40)
  • $5 trifecta key 4 with 3,6 ($10)

Agoo has gate presence but does his best work from off the pace to some extent, and the April foal will be difficult to fend off in the lane if he runs to his best. Regular pilot Declan Cannon will be in the stirrups.

Cherie DeVaux’s #4 Legalize (8-5) will likely be the main threat to the favorite after garnering a 98 Brisnet Speed number when graduating in his second lifetime appearance. The $500,000 spring purchase led throughout in a strong score at seven panels at Churchill Downs last time out, and he appears to be controlling speed in the heat. Brian Hernandez, Jr. will guide the son of Constitution.

#6 American Rascal (7-2) was last seen dominating the Zia Park Juvenile S. for Steve Asmussen and will be a pace factor, if not much more. The impeccably bred son of Curlin produced from the exquisite Lady Aurelia has really looked the part in two of his trio of dirt tries to date, and drawing outside in the compact field is a major bonus, too. The Stonestreet color bearer races with Lasix for the initial time and retains the services of Joel Rosario. If the bay catches a flier out of the gate, then he wouldn’t be a surprise at a fair price.
