How to bet with, and against, Brickyard Ride in the 2022 Triple Bend Stakes

May 28th, 2022

A total of six sprinters will travel seven furlongs on the Santa Anita dirt in Sunday’s $200,000 Triple Bend S. (G2). The Craig Lewis-conditioned #4 Brickyard Ride (4-5) is the clear one to beat in the tilt. Bred in the Golden State, the fleet five-year-old is among the top sprinters on the West Coast and has a love affair with Santa Anita, as well. Chestnut sports a local lifetime line that reads 12-9-1-1, which includes a facile Kona Gold S. (G3) victory on the surface in his latest endeavor.

The son of Clubhouse Ride has blazing early speed and will surely be the one to catch on Sunday with regular rider Juan Hernandez in the silks. Brickyard Ride carried his speed one mile on the oval three back when taking the Tiznow S. by 7 1/2 lengths, so the move to seven-eighths will not pose a problem in this event. He will be formidable with something close to his best.

Peter Eurton’s #2 Exaulted (5-1) owns a big late kick and looms as the main danger to the favorite in the dash. By Twirling Candy, the lightly-raced bay has flashed plenty of potential throughout his career and was a closing third in this race in 2021, prior to going on the shelf. The Kentucky-bred has been working in sharp fashion since early April and wouldn’t be a surprise to me at a decent price. Maldonado will be in the silks atop the five-year-old.

#6 Elector (3-1) has looked the part in his last pair of endeavors and will get a class test while making his stakes debut for John Sadler. The bay son of Constitution has been sharp against lesser from a pair of tries in 2022, and he seems to be coming into this race in fine order following a bullet five-furlong move last weekend. Ricardo Gonzalez retains the mount atop the four-year-old.
