How to make money with Artie's Princess in the Whimsical Stakes

June 18th, 2021

The Wesley Ward-trained #7 Artie’s Princess (2-1) headlines a fine field for the first graded stakes race of the season at Woodbine in Saturday’s $150,000 Whimsical S. (G3). An excellent cast of eight fillies and mares will contest the six-furlong affair, and the reigning Canadian champion female sprinter looms large in her 2021 bow.

By We Miss Artie, the Ontario-bred sports a nifty 6-5-1-0 mark on the all-weather surface at Woodbine, and she capped her sophomore campaign with a game score in the Bessarabian S. (G2) on the course when defeating multiple foes that she will square off with in this tilt.

Artie’s Princess has run some of her best races when coming in off of a string of morning works, and the three-time stakes queen has trained well in preparation of her comeback. The fleet bay will always be in the mix with Kaz Kimura taking the reins for the second time.

I think that the morning-line choice will be a viable win play at odds close to her current number, as this field possesses too many strong contenders to see Artie’s Princess get bet to excess. And for the exotics, I will be focusing on a pair of players to match with the top pick.

Josie Carroll’s #5 Golden Ami (8-1) is a wildcard in the field having just a trio of career performances to date, but the well-bred mare looms as the one to catch for a fine layoff conditioner. The five-year-old daughter of Goldencents led at every call in posting two dominant wins to start her career, which includes an allowance tilt on the oval, and the dark bay will be equipped with blinkers for the initial time, as well. She’s worth the risk at a nice price beneath Fukumoto.

I also think that #6 Our Secret Agent (10-1) has excellent value for conditioner Mark Casse. The Secret Circle filly closed out her three-year-old year with a solid third in the Bessarabian, and the chestnut has trained forwardly in advance of her four-year-old bow, as well. The Kentucky-bred, who has won or placed in each of her nine lifetime tries, will be rallying from off the pace under the guidance of Emma-Jayne Wilson.
