CHASMO'S DUTCH wins the 2016 Southland Derby in impressive fashion with an 8 length victory

The 2016 SOUTHLAND DERBY stakes champion is CHASMO'S DUTCH after his very impressive 8 length win in the finals of this highly competitive stakes contest. CHASMO'S DUTCH broke well and was in good position running 3rd going into the 1st turn. He was able to avoid the trouble that several other greyhounds got caught up in rounding the turn and from then on he put on quite the performance as he steadily pulled away from the pack and won going away. Chumbrago finished 2nd with Irvin Of Ruckus 3rd and SE Tali Sundance finishing 4th. The Consolation race was won by NASHAPELLI. While the early rounds of this stakes competition featured upsets, CHASMO'S DUTCH went off as the co-favorite with SE Tali Sundance and he proved his backers were right on the money. Congratulations go out to his owner Lester Raines and the Lester Raines Kennel as well as to Ken Lesperance and all other connections to this very talented greyhound. One thing is for sure, each one of the 8 greyhounds gave it their all in their quest to be the 2016 Southland Derby champion and CHASMO'S DUTCH certainly earned it with a win against some of the best greyhounds in the country. This is the next to last stakes championship for the 2016 season at Southland with only the FESTIVAL OF STAKES championship left on the racing schedule at this track. Earlier in this competition I had listed my 8 selections to make the finals along with my pick to win it all as well as a longshot pick and with the results in, I had 4 of my picks that make the Consolation race and I had 2 of my picks in the Finals (CHASMO'S DUTCH & SE TALI SUNDANCE).
