'Jean' the Key in Gulfstream Late Pick 4

March 6th, 2020

A pair of stakes races on the turf help comprise the Late Pick 4 sequence (Races 9-12) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. While the stakes races appear logical to me, I do expect to receive value in the pair of allowance races on the slate.

Here is my ticket structure:

Race 9 -- Silks Run S.

Jason Servis’ #4 Shekky Shebaz (8-5) was fourth as the favorite in his 2020 debut on the course, but he had excuses and will improve on Saturday. Cape Blanco gelding will be forwardly placed in his second off the bench with Irad Ortiz picking up the mount.

#1 Archidust (7-2) gets a tricky draw for his seasonal bow, but the 4-year-old was very impressive from a trio of grassy endeavors as a sophomore. Verrazano colt possesses a strong turn of foot and worked a sharp half-mile on the Palm Meadows green in advance of today. I will go two-deep to commence the play.

Race 10 -- Allowance

A Florida-bred optional claiming event on the dirt attracted eight. #4 Ty Ran A Homer (10-1) has been first or second in all three lifetime tries on the main oval for O’Connell. Gray gelding is the lone horse in the field not offered for a tag, as well.

#6 Lil Commissioner (4-1) romped the last time he was in with state-bred foes. Navarro trainee exits a pair of solid runs with open company, and he has shown improvement since adding blinkers four back. Gelding will be formidable with his best as I side with a pair of runners in leg 2.

Race 11 -- Captiva Island S.

Morning-line choice #11 Jean Elizabeth (2-1) draws wide for her second run on the local lawn. Rivelli charge has won seven races in succession, and I have no interest in trying to beat her in this spot. The genuine mare has proven that she is much more than a synthetic standout. I will single the win machine.

Race 12 -- Allowance

First-level allowance tilt on the turf lacks a standout. I think every filly and mare has a realistic chance to win the finale, and although it is a big field, I will be clicking the ‘all’ button to conclude my wager.
